Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This paper proposes one non-uniform offset algorithm for milling toolpath generation based on 2D polygons and Boolean operations, which is proved by several thin-wall milling examples. However, the novelty is poor, and the written structure is tedious. The authors are suggested to strengthen the manuscript with the following comments:

(1)       This word “not uniform” should be “non-uniform” in the tittle.

(2)       What are the differences between the proposed algorithm and CAM software, since the CAM also can generate the tool path using the Boolean operations. Moreover, is the continuity of the toolpath considered?

(3)       What kinds of tools or cutters are used in this algorithm?

(4)       Please specify the main contributions of the paper in “Introduction”

(5)       How do the authors determine the offset values of each points in “Sect.2.1”?

(6)       What is the meaning of “(Error! Reference source not found)”?

(7)       Please list one example of complex surface, such as blade, for the verification of the proposed algorithm.

Reviewer 2 Report

1) The topic of the article is very interesting and it focuses an important problem of the tool path planning.

2) The article presents a solution, how can be a non-uniform tool path generated, and it is demonstrated by examples, but there is no information, what is the advantage of it. E.g. at 242-244 and 292-294: why the variable radial depth of cut is prefered?

3) The article presents the geometric solution of the problem, but the cutting technology is missing.

4) The description of the algorithm is very theoretical, there is no details. (e.g. what was the representation of the contours).

5) In case of Fig. 1,2,3,4 and Table 1. the "offset value array" diagrmas should be the first, because this is one of the input data.

6) The Fig.2 is not necessary, because only the b) part has new content, and it is related to the Fig.1. It can be inserted between Fig.1 a) and b).

7) The manuscipt contains several "Error! Reference source not found." comments.
