Study on Dynamic Characterization and Vibration Reduction of Scrubber Structures Using Fluid Structure Interaction Analysis
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
The subject of this manuscript is important and interesting not only for scientists but also for mechanical engineers. The manuscript is well structured and adjusted for potential readers interested in scrubber structures and fluid structure interaction (FIS) analysis.
I have few comments and recommendations.
1) Introduction – the new contribution of the paper should be clearly indicated.
2) The vibration problem under consideration is recognized to be caused be the operation of the pump. For this reason, a detailed description of the pump itself is needed (type, description of operation, operating parameters, relevant parameters of the motor used, etc.).
3) Figure1 - add some dimensions to see how large the structure is.
4) From Figure 1 it appears that there are two pumps – one on the right side of the tank and one on the left side. Two pumps are depicted also in Figure 3 and Figure 10. But the description points to one pump (already in line 34 – pump, not pumps). This should be clearly described, already in the introduction, whether there is one pump or two pumps. Please check the entire article to see if this issue is clear.
5) It should be better described how the maximum reaction force of the pump is calculated.
6) Figure 5 - better description is needed.
7) It should be justified why the SDOF model (1) is adopted. Also, please check if all the quantities in equations (1)-(10) are clearly introduced.
8) Some typos found:
- line 124: “The stability and damping ratio…”, should be “The stiffness and damping ratio”…
- unnecessary dash in, e.g., line 41: “de-signed”, line 51: “sur-rounding”, line 55: “transmit-ted”, line 137: “dis-played”, line 357: “de-sign”

- Why are the grids in some areas blank in the grid schematic in Figure 3?
- The mesh of the structural domain and the mesh of the fluid domain should be given separately in the article?
- In order to calculate the accuracy of the results, the number of grids in the article should be given. And the corresponding grid independent analysis should be made.
- Supplement corresponding experimental data and procedures.

Reviewer 3 Report
The authors investidated vibration characteristics of scrubbers. A scrubber vibration velocity was reduced to 4 mm/s, which shows that it is essential to reinforce the structure of scrubbers and to determine an appropriate design reinforcement method.
Therefore I have following questions:
The review is too short und needs to be extended. What is difference of this work compared with other works?
What are differences of the introduced dynamic model of the system compared with models in other works?
What methods are used in literature for vibration reduction?
Could you please explain the steps of the FSI analysis, which you use?
How do you provide the grid independence analysis of the geometrical model?
How do you validate the data provided according to the model?
