Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Mirko Pe. and the coauthors reviewed the role of irisin concerning exercise and cognitive performance. The following are my comments:

  1. Line 26: Can the acronym PE be replaced with its original word?
  2. Line 80: Typological mistake "neuropathological pathological conditions"
  3. It was difficult to get the message from the sentence written in lines 128-130.
  4. The sentence in lines 135-137 is a bit difficult to understand.
  5. Figure 1. Resolution is of not good quality, it is suggested to provide a figure with good quality.
  6. Line 265: The sentence is incorrect.
  7. Please pay attention to the proper formatting of gene and protein names while writing.

Reviewer 2 Report

This is a very interesting review article about the role if irisin related to exercise and cognitive performance.  I do not have major revisions but some very small recommendations for English writing.  Minors changes recommended:

  1. have an editor well versed in English proofread this article for final submission to clean up minor grammar and syntax errors.
  2. page 3, line 103, opening"on" should change to opening up.
  3. page 3, line 108 - this sentence is not clear and needs rewriting.
  4. page 3, lines 109, change store to storage and recover to recovery.
  5. page 3, line 110, change store to storage.
  6. page 3, line 113, remove comma after memory.
  7. page 3, line 121, Add "The" before the sentence starting with Brain and remove capitalization from brain.
  8. page 3, line 119, add clarify if you mean layers or regions or both of the cortex.
  9. page 3, line 121, last sentence is awkward and needs revision.
  10. Page 3, line 127, change Whitin to Within (?)
  11. page 3, line 123, remove the in front of Mild Cognitive Impairment.
  12. page 3, line 127, remove there in front of are and add the in front of approach and add es to approaches.
  13. page 3, line 133, change to to with in front of improvement.
  14. page 3, line 141, change decoy to decay (?)
  15. page 3, line 142 add with in from of respect.
  16. page 3, line 143-144, Sentence starting with In more details, rephrase this sentence as its meaning is not clear.
  17. Page 4, line 1654, add "s" to human for humans
  18. page 4, line 186, remove "to" (?)
  19. page 4, line 178, add "the" after in and before brain.
  20. page 4, line 189, change depending to dependent
  21. page 5, line 208, add "is" after evidence and change provides to provided
  22. page 8, line 342, depending needs a different word choice.  syntax is off.
  23. page 8, line 371, change human to humans
  24. page 10, line 435, remove "Taken together" as it is extraneous
  25. page 10, line 445, change chronic to sustained?  Wrong word choice.
