Comments and Suggestions for Authors

Thank you for the opportunity to review “Public Discourse of the Chilean Ministry of Education on School Violence and Convivencia escolar: A Subjective Theories Approach”, which was a qualitative review of Tweets made by the Chilean Ministry of Education on the topic of school violence and convivencia escolar. I only have two comments for article improvement. Beyond that, I have no substantive comments.

1) Page 1, line 38: I encourage the author(s) to move the definition of convivencia escolar earlier in the first paragraph, as I was unaware of the concept before reading this paper and there were multiple references to it before it was defined.

2) I encourage the author(s) to add, in line with best practices in qualitative research, a statement on their positionality as researchers/scholars. It helps to know what position the author(s) are coming from and how that affects their judgement in organizing the subjective theories. That would aid in legitimizing the findings of the study.

That is all of my feedback. I applaud the authors on their important work.

Author Response

We would like to express our gratitude for the opportunity to revise the manuscript entitled “Public Discourse of the Chilean Ministry of Education on School Violence and Convivencia escolar: A Subjective Theories Approach”. We greatly appreciate the reviewer’s comments, which have significantly contributed to improving the clarity and transparency of our work.

Below, we present a table with each of the comments received and our corresponding response, indicating the modifications made to the manuscript.

Page 1, line 38: I encourage the author(s) to move the definition of convivencia escolar earlier in the first paragraph, as I was unaware of the concept before reading this paper and there were multiple references to it before it was defined.

We have modified the introduction and reordered the first paragraph to present the definition of convivencia escolar before the subsequent references and discussions, in order to facilitate understanding of the concept from the outset.

I encourage the author(s) to add, in line with best practices in qualitative research, a statement on their positionality as researchers/scholars. It helps to know what position the author(s) are coming from and how that affects their judgement in organizing the subjective theories. That would aid in legitimizing the findings of the study.

We have incorporated a section on positionality at the end of the Methodology. In this new text, we make explicit both the interpretive approach adopted and the influence of our professional and academic trajectories on the way we interpret subjective theories. We believe that this addition provides transparency and strengthens the legitimacy of the findings.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The article provides an analysis of the subjective theory of school violence presented in the public discourse of the Chilean Ministry of Education. Violence in schools is not a problem of just one country, but can be considered a global problem. Therefore, the topic is very topical. The objectives of the study are clearly defined, the methodology is appropriate, the results are clearly presented in tables. I recommend that the authors add a Conclusion chapter. There, they should express their opinion on the given issue in more detail and in the context of the opinions of other experts from their country or other locations.

Additional comments:

The article provides an analysis of the subjective theory of school violence presented in the public discourse of the Chilean Ministry of Education on Twitter.

The aim of the study is to analyze documents from the Chilean Ministry of Education that relate to school violence. This aim is defined at the beginning of the article and forms the basis for the rest of the text, which provides information on the analysis. The set goal was achieved.

The issue of school violence is not a problem specific to one country, but can be considered a global problem. Therefore, the topic is very relevant and can provide new ideas for readers from other countries.

The theoretical part of the article is well written. The article first discusses the definitions of school violence, then focuses on subjective theories and discourses, and the use of media by the Chilean Ministry. This part can be useful for teachers, parents, and students.

The objectives of the study are clearly defined, the methodology is appropriate, and the results are clearly presented in tables and supported by arguments. There are sufficient references to further literature throughout the article.

The article is well written, but I miss a conclusion chapter where the authors would summarize the significance and purpose of the public media used by the Ministry of Education and at the same time express their opinion on the issue of school violence and the presented materials.

I recommend that the authors add a Conclusion chapter. In this section, they should express their opinion on the issue in more detail. It would certainly be appropriate to include other experts' opinions on this issue from their country or other locations.

We have added a Conclusions section at the end of the manuscript, in which we summarize the relevance of the Chilean Ministry of Education’s use of public media and express our perspective on school violence and the materials analyzed. In this section, we also integrate references to contributions from other national and international researchers in order to situate our findings within a comparative framework. We believe that this addition strengthens the final discussion and provides greater closure to the article.
