Comments and Suggestions for Authors

I would suggest that the authors consider changing “refugee migration has increased enormously” to “forced migration has increased considerably” in line 21.
In line 31, there is a missing space in “Instead, integration.” The same issue occurs in line 76: “6)and.”
The phrase “adolescents are more ok with exclusion” is somewhat informal in line 85.
There is a typographical error in line 124: “decide.. The”, in line 176: “study., could”, in line 253: “beyond age,.”, and in line 284: “p = .006 In”.
Please revise “were a less inclusive” in line 390.
The authors do not justify the relevance of publishing in 2025 a study conducted in 2019. As such, it is unclear how these data are intended to replicate a study published in 2022. This limitation is neither mentioned nor justified in the “Strengths and Limitations” section.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

This paper covers a really important topic, and is well written. My main concern relates to the paucity of scholarship introduced in the paper - there are many more angles to this issue of acceptance of former refugee youth that need to be incorporated into the paper to effectively demonstrate its original contribution.

Introduction

"It is important to note that integration cannot be understood as a unidirectional process for which only refugees are responsible" - This sentence reads as if this belief is commonplace - which I would refute. If you are basing this belief in literature, please provide some to back it up; otherwise, consider changing the wording.

Can you provide some literature that looks at adolescents' acceptance of refugee youth from other countries? Literature that looks at how adults accept former refugees?

Theoretical framework

How does this theoretical work on in-group mentality etc intersect with attitudes towards former refugees? This is another aspect of existing scholarship that needs to be included in your paper.

Current study

What do you mean by "high skills" and "low skills"?

Design and Procedures

What are the likely/possible implications of completing the survey in class with peers in attendance? This issue should be acknowledged.

Results

It would be good to include any further analysis you could provide to add greater nuance to the findings e.g. were there any discernible trends by age? By gender?

Discussion

You need to introduce some literature here to demonstrate how your paper builds on existing scholarship.

What is the applicability of these findings beyond the context of German youth discussing Syrian refugees? This is a question that needs to be addressed to demonstrate what your paper contributes.
