Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The verbs need to be in English: For example:

Line 49 Restructuring

Line 49 or velocity refuge implementation

Line 60 61 Only recently, has the behavioral sensitivity to light stimuli from cyprinid species

61 studied

Line 62 conjugation incorrect term: joining?

Line 64-68 citation?

Line 70 demonstrate How are the previously published studies different by this author?

Line 89 Again, how is this study different from the many published studies by this author on this topic?

Line 90 "Besides that" Furhermore

(1) Are the 99 blood lactate and glucose levels of L. bocagei altered under hydropeaking conditions in the presence 100 of LUNKERS-type structures? (2) Does L. bocagei use the structures as areas of reduced flows under 101 hydropeaking conditions? (3) Is the visual stimulus (opaque vs transparent) critical to fish "THAT" use the 102 structures as a refuge under rapid flow fluctuations?

131 "Every night" strike day

293 "it was higher (12.52 min ± 14.32) than in the HP events (9.58 min ± 11.06)" The error higher than result? Due to very small sample size? Another method needed to distinguish Low and High Flow.

Reviewer 2 Report

This is an excellent study/manuscript.

Methods – Elucidate how the individual vs. group responses were recorded, estimated, and analyzed; describe treatment-specific sample sizes (replicates) and standard errors for individual vs. groups.  Provide a clear explanation of how Wilcoxon’s test was used to analyze the two types of data.

Results -- Report sample sizes for all treatment-specific estimates (n = …) in figures 2 and 3 and tables 2 and 3.
