Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Reviewer (Remarks to the Author):

The rapid development of transportation infrastructure in Malaysia had changed the mobility landscape of the country. While it would be a welcome advancement for many, older adults might find it difficult to keep up with their transportation uses and remain active. This study reviewed published articles on the travel behavior of older adults and its associated transportation determinants to explore how sustainable the transportation system is for this vulnerable cohort. Four databases were searched: PubMed, Scopus, ProQuest, and EBSCOhost. Inclusion criteria were older respondents, living in a community in Malaysia, addressing any travel behavior characteristics and written in English language. Review paper, letters, book citations, comments, editorials, and experimental and animal studies were excluded from this study. All in all, this review included seven studies extending from the year 2007 to 2020. The result showed that transportation use of older adults had shifted from relying on public transports to driving their own vehicle to move around. According to the finding of this study, besides personal and health factors, transport use of older adults was affected mainly by cost, public transport availability, road traffic and safety, the complexity of the transportation system, distance to public transit, availability of parking space, road condition and signage. It is concluded that an effective strategy to improve the transportation system is lauded to prevent unmet travel needs among the older adults in Malaysia. This is valuable work, but it needs to be revised appropriately. Here are some comments and questions:

1. In addition to the examples above, there are some grammatical errors and format issues throughout the paper, which make it hard for the reviewer to read. Please revise the paper carefully for the reviewer’s further consideration.

2. Please carefully check the spelling and format of all author names, affiliations and funding information. If your paper is accepted for publication, it is important this information is accurate to ensure your article is correctly indexed, which may affect citations and future funding evaluation.

3. It is suggested that the author insert some pictures so as to show the readers more clearly the actual situation of Malaysia's transport infrastructure.

4. You can quote some papers from other directions, such as Frontiers of Physics 17 (1), 13304, 2022; Optics & Laser Technology 146,107546, 2022. The influence of the progress of laser technology on the choice of transportation for the elderly is analyzed from the point of view of ultrafast optics.

Reviewer 2 Report

Thank you for the opportunity to read the paper. It is an interesting toping and I consider it fits to the journal.
I have just some suggestions:

01. There is a lack of literature review in relation to the analysed subject.

02. “Table 1 summarizes the general features of the included studies as well as their study findings” must be replaced with “Table 1 summarizes the general features of the included studies as well as their study findings.”. Table 1 does not exist.

03. The conclusions’ part must be developed.

04. The biography needs to be improved and updated. A possible bibliographic resource could be:

    Dear Authors

I have reviewed the manuscript under consideration for possible publication in "Sustainability". I did not find the article interesting as well as novel for publication.

According to my point of view, the abstract has to be precise. It has to be improved by deleting the sentence "The rapid development of transportation infrastructure in Malaysia had changed the mobility landscape of the country. While it would be a welcome advancement for many, older adults might find it difficult to keep up with their transportation uses and remain active."

The graphs should also be included in order to compare the study of the present paper with those of existing results. Moreover, the overall presentation of the article is not attractive to grab the attention of a good number of readers.

I cannot recommend the manuscript for possible publication in its present form in ""Sustainability".

    sincerely yours,

    Reviewer
