Comment 1: What is the sample number of teachers involved?

Response: Thank you very much for your comment. As mentioned in the manuscript (e.g., abstract section, the present study section, section of sampling and participants), one novice female teacher participated in this case study. Relevant content has been highlighted in yellow.

A single case study with multiple data was adopted to acquire an in-depth description of the dynamic nature of teacher emotions during teaching, laying the foundation for follow-up quantitative research and generalization of findings. To obtain rich information about the research questions and ensure the potential representativeness of the case, three criteria were employed to select the case: (a) the participant’s emotions shared similar characteristics with those of most teacher-participants in a survey; (b) novice teachers; and (c) accessibility and willingness to participate in this study. The most important reason for the single case was that the teacher shared similar characteristics with those of most teacher-participants in a survey. In other words, the case, to some extent, represented other teachers. In addition, the case of a novice teacher is a critical and typical case because novice teachers often lack solid beliefs, knowledge, and rich teaching experiences and are more likely to experience emotional fluctuations or changes. Hence, exploring the dynamic processes of novice teachers’ emotions is essential and significant to facilitating teachers’ sustainable professional development.

Comment 2: Supporting data from student responses does not yet exist and should be added.

Response: Thank you very much for your valuable suggestion. Students’ responses to the teacher were recorded by the classroom videos. For the “Happiness” example, students’ responses were displayed in the corresponding teaching excerpt on page 10 (i.e., E6.5_LT1). Regarding the “Shame” example, the teacher’s shame was related to her ugly graphs of two logarithmic functions, irrelevant to students. So, we did not present students’ responses. In terms of the example about “hierarchy and accumulation of teacher emotions during teaching,” we have added the video transcript of teaching episodes on page 12 (i.e., E2.1_LT1) to support students’ responses.

As for the teacher’s emotional responses, we have added the video transcript of E2.1 on page 4 and highlighted relevant content in bold (see E6.5_LT1 on page 10 and E2.1_LT1 on page 12). Relevant changes and all descriptions of teachers’ emotional responses in the section of results were also highlighted in yellow.

Comment 3: The result data for the Pattern and dynamics of teacher emotions indicator is clearly expressed.

Response: Thank you so much for your positive comments.
