Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The article presents very interesting research on the use of palm oil fuel ash (POFA) as sustainable building material. All properties are well investigated. Please consider the following comments:

  1. At line 209, is the composition expressed as a percentage by weight? Please clarify (This lack has been committed in different parts of the manuscript)
  2. At line 252, please correct the expression in brackets
  3. At lines 252-253, you state that “The ratio of sodium silicate: sodium hydroxide was fixed to 0.75 for all mixtures of alkaline solution” but on line 252 in brackets it is set at 1.02. What is the correct value?
  4. At lines 315-317, please correct the chemical formula by adding the subscripts (This lack has been committed in different parts of the manuscript)

Reviewer 2 Report

The topic of this manuscript is an important research topic from the engineering point of view and the scientific perspective. The manuscript studied the effect of the ratios of constituent materials (POFA, GBFS, and FA) of AAMs on their compressive strength and durability. I recommend this paper for publication after completing the following comments:

  • All symbols and abbreviations used in the text must be explained from their first appearance. For example, Lines 46, 96 & 97 (C-S-H), Line 70 (WCP), Lines 88 & 175 (AABs), Lines 98 & 275 (DS), and Table 2 (Ms).
  • Methodology, Lines 244 to 246, these two sentences must be rephrased. Line 274 (CS) must be removed.
  • Lines 285 and 286, "The solution was altered after every 2 months to keep the pH level constant during the experiment". This sentence must be documented.
