Reviewer 2 Report

This paper presents an interesting study of the development of environmental health competences through compulsory education in several Spanish regions. This issue is relevant and innovative.

Both the title and the abstract are clear. The abstract gives clear and enough information on the aim, the methodology, the context and the main results of the study.

There is a clear integration and coherence between the different parts of the article.

The review of the literature is adequate and up-to-date, demonstrating knowledge of environmental health literacy as an emerging framework.

The objectives of the article are clear and the data collection and the data analysis procedures are adequate to the research.

Data is presented and discussed in a well-structured way.

The results obtained are a good catalyst for reflexion and discussion about the impact of the education system on the development of environmental health competences and the necessary measures to increase students' environmental health literacy.
