Reviewer 2 Report

It is an article about the "Production and optimization of Hermetia illucens larvae reared on food waste and utilized as feed  ingredient outside the food chain". It is a good study but generally i found following issues and challenges need to address.

Abstract: It is too general, please mention the result as well instead of writing the general findings.

Introduction: It looks, authors tried to cover all aspects of introduction in a short way and possible to enhance and more focuses on the study factors in the section introduction.

MM section, Statistical analysis: There are many other recent advanced techniques for data analysis and may be adopted.

Results and discussion section need more attention., results are too short with only few parameters while discussion section is detailed, there is need to develop the balance between these two sections.

Conclusion; what are the recommendation and message for the stakeholders and policy makers?

Further specific comments can be seen in attached pdf copy.

Author Response

Dear Reviewer,

First of all, thank you for your inputs, which we believe that guided us to improve the manuscript.

The abstract was improved and the results are now presented in the abstract.

The introduction was slightly improved, and a few more studies were included in the introduction

Statistical analysis: We are aware that several different statistical software packages are available, but for this study, we believe that the chosen approach was both sufficient and appropriate.

Results and Discussion:  The legends of figure 1 and 2 were improved as suggested. The results were better explained in order to ensure a higher balance between the Result and Discussion sections.

Conclusion: Recommendation for the policy makers was made.

References: This was verified.

Best regards,

Anton Gligorescu
