Round 1

Comments and Suggestions for AuthorsDear authors,
thank you for your fascinating investigation.
Research on estimating and modelling transpiration using sap flow measurements is relevant for developing sustainable land use under climate change. Authors can find comments and remarks below.
Lines 2-4 – Authors can improve the title of the article.
L. 9-28 – Authors should change keywords because the title and keywords should not have the same words. In the present version, the title contains the words " sap flow", " transpiration", and “meadow encroachment”. Also, authors can add 2-3 keywords.
L. 112-114, Figure 1 – Symbols and characters of Figure 1 are unreadable. The authors should improve Figure 1.
L. 157 – Data from Table 1 can be described in text.
L. .... 451, 453, 454, 489 ... – Please check that all conventions, units and symbols are spelled correctly.
L. 527-528 – Data from Table 3 can be described in the text.
L. 536-540 Figure 6 – Symbols and characters of Figure 6 are unreadable. The authors should improve Figure 6.
L. 552-555 Figure 7 – Symbols and characters of Figure 6 are unreadable. The authors should improve Figure 7.
L. 839-889 - Authors should improve the conclusions of the article. The findings should be shorter. It looks like continued Results & Discussion and partly repeatation in the present form.

Comments and Suggestions for AuthorsComplicated research, however, is described in some fragments with too simple terms, often repeated in subsequent sentences, this is marked in yellow in the text of the publication. The results are presented in charts that are too small and not legible (enlarge). In the discussion, please do not use generalizations, but state what species were studied by other researchers and under what climatic conditions. Conclusion too long.

English is OK, but the writing style is questionable.

Comments and Suggestions for AuthorsI reviewed the manuscript with keen interest. The manuscript provides a good overview of the research but lacks a clear statement of its broader impact, particularly in relation to climate change and land management.
The abstract has limited presentation of results. Please include more quantitative results.
In the introduction section, please emphasize the significance and the novelty aspect of the study. Moreover, add the description regarding using the MJS model and the GL-DREAM(ZS) algorithm for this type of analysis, especially in comparison to alternative models.
Elaborate on the importance of using MODIS ET for validation and how well the model aligned with it.
Improve the dpis of the figures for clarity. Specially figure 3, figure 4, figure 6.
Add more performance indicators expect RMSE and PBIAS(%).
Discussion needs to be refined and rearranged as per the objectives and contents of the study. Add more references from literature.
Summarize conclusion section.
