Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The authors in this paper analized the role of Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) with Thermal Energy Storage (TES) in a regional Renewable Energy (RE) mix including Solar Photovoltaics (PV) and wind energy as well.
The paper have take as objective not only to maximize the production at a given cost, but also to provide adequacy services to the electricity system by reducing the variability of the RE production.
The paper require changes repored in yellow in the attached paper , the controll of the some formulas and the symbology of the formulas used in the paper.

I would say that apart from minor language presentation corrections, the manuscript is in a good shape. I would lean towards making the  Methodology chapter a bit less detailed (with moving parts of it into appendices) to make the manuscript less bloated and more readable, as currently this part overshadows the results part. Even the results part suffers from too many tables etc. Examples of minor nitpicks:

- [1] "We question the role" sounds as if the solution was already there and authors were not believing in its correctness, poor choice of words here

- [33] "solar insolation" - repetition, is there non-solar insolation?

 - A lot of sentences are too long and manuscript readability would be much improved by splitting them into shorter ones, example in lines [173-174]
