“Cardiovascular Medicine” is read not only by its core members, that is adult and paediatric cardiologists, angiologists and cardiac surgeons, but also by internists and general practitioners. The latter are equally important for the scope of the journal, as cardiovascular diseases remain, even in the most recent statistical analyses from the Swiss “Bundesamt für Statistik”, the most important cause of morbidity and mortality in Switzerland and hence generalists are equally important to take care of the management of these patients. Indeed, the readers’ survey among Swiss doctors performed last year turned out to be very favourable for us. Surprisingly almost a third of all doctors read “Cardiovascular Medicine”. Even more intriguing, it was found that 59% and 49% of all generalists and internists in Switzerland, respectively, know the journal and read it to a greater or lesser extent.
Among cardiologists and angiologists, “Cardiovascular Medicine” even ranks in third position (Figure 1), before prestigious journals and its Swiss competitors.
Thus, we can be proud of what we have achieved over the last 14 years while our journal has existed and prospered. Therefore, we would also like to take the opportunity to thank our editors and reviewers who help us improve the journal further and to provide readers with peer-reviewed publications, reviews and case reports. To further grow, we need your continued support. We also hope that the favourable results of the survey among Swiss doctors motivates researchers as well as established physicians and scientists to submit papers, as they are indeed read by a large and growing community in Switzerland.
Happy New Year to all of you! We hope to meet you on a monthly basis within the pages of Cardiovascular Medicine.
