Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce the publication of a Special Issue entitled “Advanced Modelling, Design and Testing of Composite Materials”.

Composite materials, especially carbon fiber-reinforced polymers (CFRP) and advanced thermoplastic composites such as CF/PEEK, are increasingly being adopted in aerospace, defense, and high-performance engineering systems due to their exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, fatigue resistance, and design flexibility. In engineering applications, advanced composite materials play an increasingly critical role in high-performance structures due to their exceptional mechanical properties and design flexibility. However, their inherent multi-scale heterogeneity, strong anisotropy, and complex failure mechanisms present significant challenges to high-fidelity modelling, reliable design, and accurate performance evaluation. Furthermore, discrepancies between design specifications, manufacturing processes, and service environments often lead to deviations in mechanical performance and service life.

Therefore, this Special Issue will focus on advanced modelling, design, and testing methodologies for composite materials and structures, particularly for applications requiring high reliability and environmental adaptability. It will cover multiscale modelling and finite element simulation, structural design and optimization, mechanical testing and characterization, composite performance evaluation, environmental adaptability experiments, and practical engineering applications. Contributions integrating advanced modelling, experimental validation, and real-world engineering deployment are highly encouraged.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Modelling is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
