Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic, relapsing inflammatory skin disease driven by immune dysregulation and epidermal barrier dysfunction. Current therapeutic options are often limited by safety concerns or suboptimal tolerability. In this study, we isolated and structurally characterized GRB-H—a λ-carrageenan-enriched sulfated hybrid galactan from the marine red alga Gigartina radula—as a complex polysaccharide containing κ-, ι-, μ-, ν-, and λ-carrageenan structural units, and systematically evaluated its anti-AD potential using both in vitro and in vivo models. In vitro, GRB-H significantly suppressed lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced nitric oxide (NO), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), and interleukin-6 (IL-6) in RAW 264.7 macrophages, and reduced 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB)-evoked TNF-α and IL-1β expression in HaCaT keratinocytes. In a DNCB-induced murine model of AD, topical application of GRB-H markedly ameliorated skin inflammation, epidermal hyperplasia, and dermal immune cell infiltration. GRB-H treatment lowered total serum immunoglobulin E (IgE) levels, restored the imbalanced Th1/Th2 cell ratio in the spleen, and downregulated the mRNA expression of key inflammatory cytokines—including TNF-α, IL-4, IL-5, IL-31, and interferon-γ (IFN-γ)—in lesional skin. Collectively, these findings demonstrate that GRB-H alleviates AD symptoms through coordinated local anti-inflammatory and systemic immunomodulatory actions, highlighting its promise as a marine-derived candidate for the topical management of AD. The rapid evolution of artificial intelligence technologies toward the agentic AI paradigm enables the emergence of the Agentic Web in the future Internet. Agent communication plays a critical role in constructing the Agentic Web but faces unique challenges posed by the edge–network–cloud continuum in the future Internet. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of state-of-the-art agent communication protocols and technologies, evaluating their readiness to support the construction of the Agentic Web. We first survey representative communication protocols and analyze the key technologies they employ, assessing their effectiveness in addressing the challenges for agent communications in the future Internet. We then identify critical gaps between existing approaches and the requirements of the Agentic Web, and propose a unified architectural framework grounded in virtualization and service-oriented principles to address these gaps. Such a framework may greatly facilitate the development of a pluralistic ecosystem in which various agent communication technologies and protocols can be freely developed and fully utilized. We also discuss open topics and possible directions for future research toward a fully realized Agentic Web. Full article

China is one of the world’s leading producers of celery. In recent years, the market price of celery has often experienced rollercoaster-like fluctuations. Such volatility has become a significant factor affecting the income of vegetable farmers, market stability, and household consumption. The key to addressing this issue lies in understanding the threshold of the celery planting area at which supply and demand are balanced. However, relevant research has been rarely conducted on this topic to date. Shandong Province is a major vegetable-producing region in China, and its celery output and pricing have a crucial impact on the national market. Therefore, this study takes Yucheng City, Shandong Province, as a case study. By leveraging the land vacancy characteristics before the celery planting period, the NDVI data was calculated, and the object-based supervised classification was used to extract the celery planting area from remote sensing imagery. Based on a comprehensive statistical analysis of collected annual celery wholesale prices and break-even prices over the past decade, it was found that when the autumn celery planting area in the study region exceeds 12,000 hectares, oversupply occurs, leading to losses for celery farmers. Moreover, this situation recurs approximately every four years. To prevent celery oversupply, the government should estimate the prospective celery planting area using remote sensing imagery during the one-month land vacancy period before celery transplantation. Once the estimated data reach or exceed the supply–demand balance threshold, proactive guidance should be provided to encourage celery farmers to switch to other vegetables, thereby reducing potential losses for farmers. This study provides an effective method for the government to intervene in the cultivation of crops with highly volatile prices. This study could also maintain the vegetable production at a constant level and make the celery plantation sustainable in the future. Cardiovascular Safety Signals of Oral Versus Topical Minoxidil in FAERS: A Disproportionality Analysis (Analytic Cohort 2012–2025)

Oral minoxidil, including low-dose regimens, is increasingly used off-label for alopecia, but cardiovascular safety remains a clinical concern. We compared cardiovascular adverse event reporting patterns for oral versus topical minoxidil using a disproportionality analysis of the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS). FAERS data (2004Q1–2025Q3) were imported and deduplicated; minoxidil reports were restricted to primary/secondary suspect (PS/SS) drugs and eligible reports from 2012 to 2025. Exposure was classified as ORAL, TOPICAL, BOTH, or UNKNOWN using a standardized route/dose-form dictionary. Signals for Core and Expanded cardiovascular MedDRA Preferred Terms (PTs) were assessed using reporting odds ratios (RORs) with 95% confidence intervals; sensitivity analyses included alopecia-restricted cohorts excluding hypertension indications. In the primary ORAL-versus-TOPICAL cohort (559 oral; 56,947 topical), 23 Core-list PTs and 31 Expanded-list PTs met the signal definition. Strongest primary signals included pericardial effusion (ROR 307; 95% CI 158–597), hypertensive crisis (ROR 1037; 95% CI 133–8117), pulmonary hypertension (ROR 932; 95% CI 118–7368), and pulmonary edema (ROR 1965; 95% CI 114–33,813). In an alopecia-restricted sensitivity cohort excluding hypertension/blood-pressure indications (146 oral; 24,367 topical), hemodynamic and effusion-related PTs (e.g., tachycardia, palpitations, orthostatic hypotension, syncope, and pericardial effusion) remained disproportionately reported, although event counts were smaller and confidence intervals were wider. Oral minoxidil PS/SS reports in FAERS showed disproportionate reporting of several cardiovascular PTs relative to topical minoxidil reports. However, because FAERS is a spontaneous reporting system without exposed-patient denominators and with important limitations including under-reporting, stimulated reporting, incomplete clinical information, and residual confounding, these findings should be interpreted strictly as hypothesis-generating reporting signals rather than evidence of incidence, relative risk, or definitive comparative clinical safety. Does the Application of Industrial Robots Enhance Urban Energy Resilience? Evidence from China

Against the backdrop of the in-depth adjustment of the global energy pattern and the accelerated advancement of the energy transition, coupled with the frequent occurrence of extreme climate events and the continuous intensification of risks such as supply fluctuations and external shocks faced by urban energy systems, improving urban energy resilience has become a core measure for all countries to address the vulnerability of energy systems and promote urban sustainable development. As a core technical carrier of intelligent manufacturing, the enabling role of industrial robots (IRs) in enhancing urban energy resilience (UER) has also become an important research topic in the field of the energy economy. This paper takes 280 prefecture-level and above cities in China from 2009 to 2023 as research samples and empirically examines their impact effects by constructing a Double Machine Learning (DML) model, transmission mechanism, and moderating effect of IRs on UER and ensures the reliability of conclusions through various robustness tests. The research findings indicate that IRs significantly promote the improvement of UER; industrial structure upgrading and green technology innovation are the main mediating paths, verifying how IRs affect UER from two different aspects and both environmental regulation (ER) and science expenditure (SE) positively moderate the promoting effect of IRs on UER, with the coefficients of the interaction terms being significantly positive. Robustness tests show that the core conclusions are highly reliable. This study fills the research gap in the transmission mechanism between IRs and UER and provides empirical evidence for the formulation of relevant policies. Accordingly, it is proposed that governments should strengthen the policy support for the application of industrial robots in high-energy-consuming industries, optimize the synergy mechanism between environmental regulation and scientific and technological expenditure, guide the deep integration of industrial robots with industrial structure upgrading and green technology innovation, and formulate differentiated promotion strategies based on regional energy resilience characteristics and industrial development foundations, so as to fully release the energy-resilience-improvement effect of industrial robots. A commercially available nitric oxide (NO)-releasing solution (NORS) has demonstrated in vitro efficacy for dermatophytosis, but a NO-releasing gel (NORG) may be more suitable for patient self-application. We present a preliminary investigation of NORS for tinea pedis and an in vitro investigation of NORG for dermatophyte infection, to complement the existing published data and expand support for a possible role of NO formulations in superficial dermatophyte infection. In vitro usage of NORS and NORG is reviewed. The antifungal efficacy of NORG was assessed via time-kill assays, zone of inhibition tests with synthetic dermal membrane permeation, and scanning electron microscopy. A randomized, controlled pilot study of NORS for tinea pedis investigated the safety and efficacy of treatment over three consecutive days, with a day-31 follow-up. The NORG demonstrated rapid fungicidal activity against T. rubrum and T. mentagrophytes and effective dermal membrane penetration while retaining antifungal action. Significant morphological damage to fungal cells was noted, indicating possible fungicidal activity. The clinical NORS treatment reduced the clinical symptom severity score by 67% on average, with no significant safety findings. These findings, in addition to existing publications, support NO-releasing formulations as potential therapies that warrant further clinical investigation for superficial fungal infection. Millenarianism originated from apocalyptic literature in Judaism, emphasizing that the “Messiah” would establish a “millennial kingdom” on earth ruled by the Jews. This ideology became a theoretical weapon for Jews to resist imperial tyranny during classical antiquity and was later embraced by early Christian theology. By the early modern period, with the intense unfolding of the Reformation and social upheavals, the theory of the “millennial kingdom” re-emerged as a mainstream topic in Christian theology. Regarding the nature of the “millennial kingdom” and how it would be realized, early modern Christian factions split into two interpretive camps. One emphasized the spiritual attributes of the “millennial kingdom”, while the other stressed its material aspects, advocating the violent establishment of a political entity on earth ruled by Christians. These two distinct interpretive models ultimately converged on the issue of colonial expansion, transforming millenarianism into a theoretical tool to justify overseas expansion. Full article

Background and Objectives: Minor otologic procedures in adults are often performed under local anesthesia, either via injection or topical application, thereby avoiding general anesthesia-associated risks. This study aims to compare pain levels with the use of a lidocaine spray versus lidocaine injections. Materials and Methods: Fifty adult patients underwent local anesthetic myringotomy and ventilation tube placement, 30 unilaterally, and 20 bilaterally. Lidocaine injections were administered to 29 patients, and 21 received a lidocaine spray. Postoperatively, they were asked to mark their perceived pain level on a visual analogue scale (VAS, 0–100 mm), verbal rating scale (VRS, 0–3), and numeric rating scale (NRS, 0–10). Data normality was assessed using the Shapiro–Wilk test, continuous variables were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA), and VRS outcomes were analyzed using binary logistic regression. A p-value ≤ 0.05 indicated statistical significance. Results: Pain levels were low in both groups, although consistently lower in the topical lidocaine group. The average VAS score was 23.14 mm (±14.69) for injection versus 9.76 mm (±11.41) for topical anesthesia (ANOVA, p = 0.002), while NRS scores averaged at 2.41 (±1.57) and 1.19 (±1.17), respectively (ANOVA, p = 0.009), indicating significantly lower pain with topical lidocaine. Logistic regression of the VRS indicated the same trend, although it did not reach statistical significance (OR = 0.153, 95% CI:0.017–1.389, p = 0.095). Conclusions: Lidocaine spray was associated with lower pain levels compared to lidocaine injections in patients undergoing myringotomy and ventilation tube placement. Our findings suggest that topical anesthesia may represent an effective alternative, offering a less invasive approach and reducing the needle-related psychological distress of patients. Full article

Background: The global rise in antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has created an urgent need for innovative antibacterial strategies and localized delivery systems. This study aimed to develop and characterize electrospun poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) nanofibers co-loaded with atorvastatin (ATR) and zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles for use as a multifunctional topical platform for wound healing and infection control. Methods: ZnO nanoparticles were prepared via ball milling and characterized for size and zeta potential. Four PVA-based nanofiber formulations were fabricated using electrospinning: blank (F1), ZnO-loaded (F2), ATR-loaded (F3), and ATR/ZnO co-loaded (F4). The nanofibers were evaluated for morphology, thermal properties, crystallinity, and drug release. Antibacterial efficacy was tested against S. aureus, S. epidermidis, MRSA, and P. aeruginosa using broth microdilution and checkerboard assays. Biocompatibility and wound healing potential were assessed via MTT and fibroblast scratch assays on human foreskin fibroblasts (hFFs). Results: SEM imaging confirmed the production of uniform, bead-free nanofibers. ATR and ZnO nanoparticles were successfully incorporated in the nanofiber. The co-loaded formulation (F4) demonstrated a sustained release profile, releasing approximately 78.7% of ATR over 24 h. While all treatments showed limited activity against P. aeruginosa, the ATR/ZnO co-loaded nanofibers exhibited significantly enhanced antibacterial activity against Gram-positive strains, achieving the lowest MIC values (1.5–2.0 mg/mL). Synergy analysis confirmed an enhanced effect with ATR and ZnO against MRSA. Furthermore, F4 achieved the highest wound closure rate of 92.41% in 24 h while maintaining acceptable cytocompatibility. Conclusions: The integration of ATR and ZnO into PVA nanofibers provides an enhanced antibacterial effect consistent with the synergistic potential observed between free agents targeting Gram-positive wound pathogens. The platform’s ability to simultaneously inhibit bacterial growth and promote rapid fibroblast migration positions it as a promising localized therapeutic for managing infected wounds. Full article

Interventional treatment of very elderly patients with severe coronary artery disease is currently one of the central topics in interventional cardiology. Technological progress and increased life expectancy have made these patients appropriate candidates for contemporary standards of care, especially those with an active lifestyle. We hereby report the case of a 95-year-old patient hospitalized for acute myocardial infarction, who underwent a complex percutaneous coronary intervention with mechanical circulatory support. Methods: In vitro studies assessed cytotoxicity (MTT/LDH assays), Aquaporin-3 (AQP3) expression, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) production in Normal Human Epidermal Keratinocytes (NHEK). A 30-day open-label clinical study (n = 20 females, 18–70 years) evaluated three formulations (face cream, serum, and eye contour) using instrumental measurements of hydration, elasticity, density, and roughness parameters. Results: In vitro testing showed a significant increase in AQP3 expression (+22% ± 3%, p = 0.03) and a non-significant reduction in ROS levels (−33% ± 9%, p = 0.06) at 107 TFU/well, with no cytotoxicity observed. Clinical evaluation demonstrated statistically significant improvements: eye contour formulation achieved +10.5% deep skin hydration (p < 0.0001) and −11% average roughness (p < 0.0001); serum showed +28.7% immediate hydration (p < 0.0001); and face cream improved gross skin elasticity by +6.3% (p < 0.01). No adverse events were reported. An independent and methodologically distinct placebo-controlled study was included for contextual support and was not directly compared with the present trial; this study evaluated a related 1% postbiotic formulation and reported statistically significant improvements over placebo in roughness, wrinkle depth, hydration, and biomechanical parameters. Conclusions: This pilot study provides preliminary evidence that heat-treated L. plantarum SB01 and B. animalis spp. lactis SB05 formulations could safely improve skin hydration and reduce roughness parameters. While in vitro results show a significant increase in AQP3 expression and an exploratory (non-significant) reduction in ROS levels, larger controlled trials are warranted to confirm clinical efficacy. Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) are among the most serious and costly complications of diabetes, characterised by delayed healing, frequent infections, and a high risk of recurrence. Despite advances in wound care, many current therapies fail to address the multifactorial pathophysiology of diabetic wounds, including vascular dysfunction, immune dysregulation, chronic inflammation, and microbial imbalance. In this context, topical probiotics have emerged as a promising microbiome-based strategy aimed at restoring microbial balance while promoting tissue repair. This review summarises current evidence on the use of topical probiotics in diabetic wound healing, with a particular focus on DFUs, outlining key pathophysiological barriers to healing and examining how probiotic therapies may counteract these processes through antimicrobial, antibiofilm, immunomodulatory, and pro-angiogenic mechanisms. Preclinical studies suggest that topical probiotics may promote accelerated wound closure, reduce bacterial burden, modulate inflammatory responses, and enhance collagen deposition and angiogenesis following topical probiotic application. Early clinical studies investigations remain limited to small pilot studies and case series but have reported preliminary signals of enhanced healing and acceptable short-term tolerability in small exploratory cohorts. In addition, recent advances in probiotic delivery, such as bioengineered dressings, postbiotic formulations, and nano-enabled systems designed to improve stability and therapeutic performance, are also discussed. While existing data indicate biological plausibility and early clinical feasibility, larger, well-designed randomized controlled trials and deeper mechanistic investigations are still required to confirm efficacy, clarify safety in high-risk populations, and enable responsible clinical translation. Background: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a common condition that can cause dyspnea, pain, and biomechanical-postural alterations, especially when overlapping with Myofascial Pain Syndrome (MPS). Balneological rehabilitation medicine can help manage COPD and MPS, but it lacks homogeneity and detailed descriptions of effective therapeutic protocols. Therefore, we conducted a case series to preliminarily evaluate the clinical effects of a detailed and codified approach, called Bio-Physico-Metric Integrated Thermal Care (BPM-ITC), for COPD+MPS. Methods: 10 patients were observed while undergoing 20 sessions of BPM-ITC in 4 weeks. Patients were assessed before and after the protocol using the Medical Research Council (MRC) dyspnea scale, Numeric Pain Rating Scale (NPRS), and the Bio-Postural Questionnaire (BPQ) for bio-physical health status. Treatments included manual therapy of key myofascial trigger points combined with crenotherapy, steam inhalations, mud therapy, vascular path, and water-based motor re-education. Results: At the end of the protocol, clinically relevant improvements were observed in almost all parameters considered in single observed cases; overall statistical analysis of the data highlighted significant positive effects in concomitance with the BPM-ITC protocol. Conclusions: The BPM-ITC protocol was followed by significant clinical improvements in the observed cases, suggesting its potential as a complementary approach for COPD+MPS. Further studies on this topic are recommended. Full article

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) requires sustained patient engagement in complex therapeutic and self-management processes, making health literacy (HL) a key determinant of effective care. This cross-sectional study assessed HL levels among adults with IBD attending a public day-hospital service in Lisbon, Portugal, and examined associations with sociodemographic, lifestyle, and selected clinical variables. A convenience sample of 280 participants completed a self-administered questionnaire, including the Portuguese version of the European Health Literacy Survey Questionnaire (HLS-EU-PT-Q16). Descriptive statistics, bivariate analyses, and multiple linear regression were used. HL indices were computed and categorized into proficiency levels; domain- and competency-specific indices were also analyzed. Overall, 48.3% of participants had inadequate or problematic HL, whereas 42.5% had sufficient HL. Healthcare-related HL showed the most favourable profile, whereas health promotion emerged as the weakest domain, with domain-specific mean indices ranging from 31.8 ± 8.3 to 34.4 ± 7.4 on a 0–50 scale. Competency-specific indices indicated that appraisal and, particularly in disease prevention, application were the lowest, and item-level analyses highlighted difficulties with mental health information-seeking and evaluating or acting on media-based health information. In multivariable linear regression analysis, higher educational attainment was positively associated with HL (B = 0.89; 95% CI: 0.05 to 1.73; p = 0.039), whereas female sex was independently associated with slightly lower HL scores (B = −1.72; 95% CI: −3.33 to −0.11; p = 0.036). These findings indicate that nearly half of patients with IBD in a day-hospital setting experience HL-related vulnerabilities, especially beyond clinician-mediated care. Targeted, HL-sensitive interventions focusing on critical appraisal and decision-to-action support may enhance self-management and equity in IBD care. Full article

Most components fail under complex states of stress and for this reason the study of materials failure under these conditions is an important topic. The article presents the experimental study of the failure of a CFRP material, with a 0/90° cross-ply configuration, subjected to both simple loading conditions (tension, compression, and shear) and combined loading (tension–shear), using a modified Arcan testing method. The Arcan device and specimen geometry were redesigned to reduce experimental errors and the dispersion of results. It was found that there are significant differences between the strength values obtained for simple loads performed by the standardized methods and by the Arcan method, respectively. For this reason, it is recommended to use the Arcan method only for mixed loading modes. Specimens with steel tabs were used to reduce both hole ovality during testing and the number of clamping screws to only four. It was found that the experimental results under complex stress states are well described by the Tsai–Hill failure criterion and the failure envelope for the material studied was plotted. Recommendations are provided regarding the appropriate use of the Arcan method in order to obtain precise results for CFRP composites under multiaxial loading. Full article
