Urban innovation spaces are crucial to stimulate innovative thinking and facilitate the integration of science, technology, and humanities. On the one hand, existing research on urban innovation spaces focuses on spatial patterns, associated networks, and spillover effects. They are limited to the macro scale and lack of innovation subject perspective. On the other hand, few studies have explored factors influencing the distribution by examining the needs of innovative talent. This study aimed to identify the evolution mechanism of urban innovation spaces. In total, 36,519 high-tech enterprises in Guangzhou from 2008 to 2023 were selected to represent urban innovation spaces. Spatial analysis methods and statistical methods were employed to investigate the spatiotemporal dynamic characteristics. Furthermore, employing multiscale geographically weighted regression, the study identifies multiple factors influencing the development of innovation spaces from the dual perspectives of the innovation environment and services. The results indicated that characterized by a southeast-northwest orientation, the urban innovation spaces of Guangzhou have displayed an apparent point–axis–face structural evolution, expanding from the central district into sparsely distributed in the suburbs. The factors influencing the distribution of urban innovation spaces, ranked by their degree of impact, were as follows: vehicle carrying, research institutions, public park, living convenience, university resources, business hotel, industrial structure height, and metro station. These findings facilitated the understanding of urban innovation space development and grasped the influencing factors and their functioning mechanisms. They provided references for innovation space planning amidst urban stock development. Full article

Short-form video platforms have shifted advertising from standalone, time-bounded spots to feed-embedded, swipeable stimuli, creating a high-velocity processing context that can penalize casting complexity. We ask whether a “one face, many roles” casting strategy (a single actor playing multiple characters) outperforms multi-actor executions, and why. A two-phase pretest (N = 3500) calibrated a realistic ceiling for “multi-actor” casts, then four experiments (total N = 4513) tested mechanisms, boundary conditions, and alternatives. Study 1 (online and offline replications) shows that single-actor ads lower cognitive load and boost account evaluations and purchase intention. Study 2, a field experiment, demonstrates that Need for Closure amplifies these gains via reduced cognitive load. Study 3 documents brand-type congruence: one actor performs better for entertaining/exciting brands, whereas multi-actor suits professional/competence-oriented brands. Study 4 rules out cost-frugality and sympathy using a budget cue and a sequential alternative path (perceived cost constraint → sympathy). Across studies, a chain mediation holds: single-actor casting reduces cognitive load, which elevates brand authenticity and increases purchase intention; a simple mediation links cognitive load to account evaluations. Effects are robust across settings and participant gender. We theorize short-form advertising as a context-embedded persuasion episode that connects information-processing efficiency to authenticity inferences, and we derive practical guidance for talent selection and script design in short-form campaigns. The Relative Age Effect (RAE) refers to the advantage that relatively older athletes within the same age group may have in sports. While this phenomenon has been widely documented in numerous disciplines, its presence in orienteering remains largely unexplored. This study aimed to analyse the existence of RAE among Spanish orienteers selected for international competitions organised by the International Orienteering Federation (IOF) between 1987 and 2023. A total of 384 participations (225 male, 159 female) were examined across the European Youth Orienteering Championships (EYOC), Junior World Orienteering Championships (JWOC), and the European and World Orienteering Championships (EOC + WOC). The distribution of birth dates by quartiles and semesters was compared using chi-square tests, Cramér’s V, Z-tests, and odds ratios with 95% confidence intervals. The results revealed a significant RAE in male athletes, particularly in JWOC, where those born in the first quartile were up to 3.77 times more likely to be selected than those in the third quartile. In contrast, no significant associations were found in female athletes, which may reflect structural or developmental differences related to sex. These gender-based disparities highlight the importance of integrating sex-specific considerations into selection policies. Overall, the findings suggest a selection bias favouring relatively older males, which may hinder the development of late-born talent. Therefore, it is recommended that selection criteria be reassessed to ensure fairer and more inclusive talent identification and development in youth and elite orienteering. Full article

Value management (VM) is a management approach aimed at inspiring individuals, nurturing their talents, and fostering synergy and innovation, all with the objective of enhancing an organization’s overall performance. This methodology seeks to reduce costs while actively engaging a diverse array of stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle. Despite its significance in construction projects, there exists a notable gap in the literature regarding the implementation of value management in public works. This study aims to identify the barriers that hinder the effective implementation of value management, as well as the critical success factors and potential risks associated with its adoption in public projects. Additionally, it assesses Turkey’s readiness for implementation within the construction sector by examining awareness levels, legislative issues, and other pertinent topics. To conduct the study, a quantitative survey was administered to 337 participants from various roles within the Turkish construction sector. The findings revealed that the inherent complexity of construction projects, time constraints, and difficulties in alternative selection are the primary barriers to implementing the value management approach in public works. Regarding the critical success factors for effective VM implementation, the involvement of end users, a collaborative workshop environment, and the multidisciplinary composition of the VM team were identified as the most significant contributors to success. Additionally, the study highlighted potential risks associated with the adoption of VM in public works, including low operating efficiency, a low participation rate in tenders, and cost overruns. The discussion also addressed legislative and process-oriented strategies for the potential adoption of value management. Full article

New quality productive forces are the fundamental driving force for the progress of human civilization. To deeply explore the relationship between new quality productive forces and agricultural modernization, data from 30 provinces in China from 2011 to 2022 were selected to construct the index system of new quality productive forces and agricultural modernization, carry out scientific measurement, and conduct empirical analysis using the fixed effect model. The results show that new quality productivity can significantly promote agricultural modernization. The new quality productive force has a significant effect on the modernization of agriculture in the eastern, middle, and western regions of China, but the effect is more prominent in the middle and western areas. New productive forces are significantly and positively associated with agricultural modernization in both main grain-producing and non-main grain-producing areas, but the effect is greater in main grain-producing areas. The upgrading of the agricultural industrial structure plays a mediating effect between new productive forces and agricultural modernization. There is a single-threshold effect of the new productive forces empowering agricultural modernization. Accordingly, to better utilize new productive forces to empower agricultural modernization, we should fully activate the talent engine and cultivate modern “new farmers”; strive to build efficient agriculture by taking scientific and technological innovation as the driving force; and promote the sustainable development of agriculture by taking agricultural green production as the orientation. In order to solve the problems of national and international research and the current situation, the following must be addressed: the research method is more traditional; the research perspective is relatively single; the index construction lacks a theoretical basis; the index selection is more one-sided; the data is only cross-sectional; the financial and talent support is insufficient; the service level of public service facilities is not good; the awareness of cultural preservation and inheritance is insufficient; and the level of management across administrative regions is differentiated. At the same time, to meet the top-level design needs of constructing a rural historical and cultural preservation and inheritance system, the non-oriented, region-wide EBM (Epsilon-Based Measure)-GML (Global-Malmquist) model is constructed under the condition of VRS (Variable Returns to Scale), which includes non-desired outputs. Additionally, an index system for assessing the value of rural preservation and inheritance in China is also constructed. Taking the typical rural area in the Western Liao River Basin of Inner Mongolia as an example, the panel data from 2019 to 2021 are selected for empirical analysis, and the conclusions and countermeasures are as follows: 1. The overall preservation improves year by year, and partly shows high preservation in the southwest and low preservation in the northeast. The advantageous areas should update the preservation and inheritance methods to enhance the driving effect on other areas; other areas should continuously improve the quality and efficiency. 2. The difference between rural areas with the highest and lowest assessed values increases year by year, showing the Matthew effect. It is necessary to realize the policy meaning of the value assessment index system by strengthening the overall preservation, integrating the preservation and inheritance into the rural development of the whole basin, strengthening the overall management, reforming the preservation and inheritance management mode, and improving the management efficiency of rural in the whole basin. 3. Strengthen the technical empowerment and scientific preservation and inheritance. It is necessary to learn the advanced technology concept and transform the technical achievements over time. Social business organizations work to achieve social and business goals to create shared value (CSV). Strategic human resource management (SHRM) is one of the key components of optimizing shared value. The available literature needs more evidence on how these organizations manage their human resources. This study aims to bridge the gap by examining the HRM approaches of social business in creating shared value for the organization. This study analyzed four social business cases through semi-structured interviews, field visits, and a review of archival documents and web-based reports and resources. As shown in the results, we found that formal recruitment processes are followed where candidates’ prior knowledge and interests in the social business are tested rigorously. Talented, qualified, and suitable candidates are selected without any biases. On-the-job training processes are followed with a rigorous focus on orienting employees to social and business goals. Key performance indicators (KPIs) are sets for evaluating employees’ social and business performance. Market rates are followed in providing compensation. Family-oriented and participatory work environment exists, which keeps their turnover low. High-performance HRM is recommended to achieve future growth and shared value optimization. Full article

As an effective talent selection and performance management method in enterprises, can the competency model also play an essential role in farm cooperatives? Limited research currently focuses on improving farm cooperatives’ performance through agricultural managers’ competency. Our study takes the initiative to create the “agricultural manager competency model,” which includes five competency dimensions: knowledge and technology, personal capabilities, career orientation, personality traits, and intrinsic drive. On this basis, the multiple competencies are analyzed by the fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis(fsQCA). We found that agricultural managers improve the performance of farm cooperatives. There are four paths to generate high performance, which summarize three types of agricultural managers: technical career, managerial career, and integrated entrepreneurial. Full article

(1) Background: Many factors may play a role in deciding to opt for pharmacy as a major. However, no previous studies have been conducted in Saudi Arabia to explore these factors. This study aims to identify the potential factors that prompted students to join the pharmacy program. (2) Methods: A cross-sectional questionnaire was distributed among undergraduate pharmacy students in Saudi Arabia, addressing areas such as reasons that encourage them to choose pharmacy as a major, and students’ socio-demographic characteristics. Descriptive statistics were used to describe the study variables, and a simple logistic regression analysis was performed to identify the potential factors. (3) Results: A total of 491 students completed the questionnaire. Around 40% of them had chosen to study pharmacy as their first choice. Only gender, current GPA, and reasons related to the pharmacy field were found to have a statistically significant association with students selecting pharmacy as their first choice. (4) Conclusions: This study shows that pharmacy students have a future-oriented outlook and selected pharmacy as their first choice because it will develop them professionally, financially, and intellectually. Educating high school students about the characteristic of pharmacy would help attract more talented students to the pharmacy carrier. Full article
