The rapid growth of mobile financial services provides significant opportunities for enhancing digital financial inclusion among older adults. However, elderly consumers often lag in adoption and sustained usage due to psychological barriers (e.g., technology anxiety) and factors related to prior experience and comfort with technology (e.g., technology familiarity). This study investigates how technology anxiety and technology familiarity influence elderly consumers’ continuance intention toward mobile banking, while examining age as a moderator by comparing younger older adults (aged 60–69) and older adults (aged 70+). Using data from an online survey of 488 elderly mobile banking users in South Korea, we conducted hierarchical regression analyses. The results show that technology anxiety negatively affects continuance intention, whereas technology familiarity positively enhances sustained usage. Moreover, age significantly moderated these relationships: adults aged 70+ were notably more sensitive to both technology anxiety and familiarity, highlighting distinct age-related psychological differences. These findings underscore the importance of targeted digital literacy initiatives, age-friendly fintech interfaces, and personalized support strategies. This study contributes to the fintech literature by integrating psychological dimensions into traditional technology adoption frameworks and emphasizing age-specific differences. Practically, fintech providers and policymakers should adopt tailored strategies to effectively address elderly consumers’ unique psychological needs, promoting sustained adoption and narrowing the digital divide in financial technology engagement. Introduction: Adolescents and young adults (AYAs), especially those from underserved communities, often face barriers to sexual and reproductive health (SRH). This pilot study evaluated the implementation of mobile health technologies to promote SRH care, including the integration of the Rapid Adolescent Prevention ScreeningTM (RAAPS) and the Health-E You/Salud iTuTM (Health-E You) app at a School-Based Health Center (SBHC) in Los Angeles using the RE-AIM (Reach, Effectiveness, Adoption, Implementation, Maintenance) framework. Methods: This multi-method pilot study included the implementation of an integrated tool with two components, the RAAPS electronic health screening tool and the Health-E You app, which delivers tailored SRH education and contraceptive decision support to patients (who were sex-assigned as female at birth) and provides an electronic summary to clinicians to better prepare them for the visit with their patient. Quantitative data on tool usage were collected directly from the back-end data storage for the apps, and qualitative data were obtained through semi-structured interviews and in-clinic observations. Thematic analysis was conducted to identify implementation barriers and facilitators. Results: Between April 2024 and June 2024, 60 unique patients (14–19 years of age) had a healthcare visit. Of these, 35.00% used the integrated RAAPS/Health-E You app, and 88.33% completed the Health-E You app only. All five clinic staff were interviewed and expressed that they valued the tools for their educational impact, noting that they enhanced SRH discussions and helped uncover sensitive information that students might not disclose face-to-face. However, the tools affected clinic workflows and caused rooming delays due to the time-intensive setup process and lack of integration with the clinic’s primary electronic medical record system. In addition, they also reported that the time to complete the screener and app within the context of a 30-min appointment limited the time available for direct patient care. Additionally, staff reported that some students struggled with the two-step process and did not complete all components of the tool. Despite these challenges, clinic staff strongly supported renewing the RAAPS license and continued use of the Health-E You app, emphasizing the platform’s potential for improving SRH care and its educational value. Conclusions: The integrated RAAPS and Health-E You app platform demonstrated educational value and improved SRH care but faced operational and technical barriers in implementing the tool. These findings emphasize the potential of such tools to address SRH disparities among vulnerable AYAs while providing a framework for future implementations in SBHCs. Full article

This study evaluates the feasibility and visibility of electric vehicles (EVs) in Egypt, addressing critical research gaps and proposing actionable strategies to drive adoption. Employing a systematic review of academic, governmental, and industry sources, the paper identifies underexplored areas such as rural–urban adoption disparities, lifecycle assessments of EV batteries, and sociocultural barriers, including gender dynamics and entrenched consumer preferences. Its primary contribution is an interdisciplinary framework that integrates technical aspects, such as grid resilience and climate-related battery degradation, with socioeconomic dimensions, providing a holistic overview of EV feasibility in Egypt tailored to Egypt’s context. Key findings reveal infrastructure limitations, inconsistent policy frameworks, and behavioral skepticism as major hurdles, and highlight the untapped potential of renewable energy integration, particularly through synergies between solar PV generation (e.g., Benban Solar Park) and EV charging infrastructure. Recommendations prioritize policy reforms (e.g., tax incentives, streamlined tariffs), solar-powered charging infrastructure expansion, public awareness campaigns, and local EV manufacturing to stimulate economic growth. With the widespread adoption of mobile reading across diverse scenarios, understanding environmental impacts on attention has become crucial for reading performance optimization. Building upon this premise, the study examined the impacts of different reading environments on attention during mobile reading, utilizing a mixed-methods approach that combined eye-tracking experiments with semi-structured interviews. Thirty-two college students participated in the study. Quantitative attention metrics, including total fixation duration and fixation count, were collected through eye-tracking, while qualitative data regarding perceived environmental influences were obtained through interviews. The results indicated that the impact of different environments on mobile reading attention varies significantly, as this variation is primarily attributable to environmental complexity and individual interest. Environments characterized by multisensory inputs or dynamic disturbances, such as fluctuating noise and visual motion, were found to induce greater attentional dispersion compared to monotonous, low-variation environments. Notably, more complex potential task-like disturbances (e.g., answering calls, conversations) were found to cause the greatest distraction. Moreover, stimuli aligned with an individual’s interests were more likely to divert attention compared to those that did not. These findings contribute methodological insights for optimizing mobile reading experiences across diverse environmental contexts. Full article

The research adopts a mixed-methods framework, utilizing the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to prioritize teaching objectives and interpret student evaluations, alongside qualitative insights from reflective journals, open-ended surveys, and focus group discussions. The results indicate that hands-on experience, interdisciplinary collaboration, and context-aware applications play a critical role in fostering ecological awareness and responsibility among students. Notably, modules such as biosafety testing and water purification prompted transformative engagement with sustainability issues. Rapid urbanization in the twenty-first century has significantly accelerated the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to address growing challenges in governance, mobility, energy, and urban security. This paper explores how AI is transforming smart city infrastructure, analyzing more than 92 academic publications published between 2012 and 2024. Key AI applications ranging from predictive analytics in e-governance to machine learning models in renewable energy management and autonomous mobility systems are synthesized domain-wise throughout this study. This paper highlights the benefits of AI-enabled decision making, finds current implementation barriers, and discusses the associated ethical implications. Furthermore, it presents a research agenda that stresses data interoperability, transparency, and human–AI collaboration to steer upcoming advancements in smart urban ecosystems. Full article

Adopting mobile robots for high voltage (HV) live-line operations can mitigate personnel casualties and enhance operational efficiency. However, conventional mechanical arms cannot inspect concealed spaces in the power cable tunnel because their joint integrates metallic motors or hydraulic serial-drive mechanisms, which limit the arm’s length and insulation performance. Therefore, this study proposes a 7-degree-of-freedom (7-DOF) bionic mechanical arm with rigid-flexible coupling, mimicking human arm joints (shoulder, elbow, and wrist) designed for HV live-line operations in concealed cable tunnels. The arm employs a tendon-driven mechanism to remotely actuate joints, analogous to human musculoskeletal dynamics, thereby physically isolating conductive components (e.g., motors) from the mechanical arm. The arm’s structure utilizes dielectric materials and insulation-optimized geometries to reduce peak electric field intensity and increase creepage distance, achieving intrinsic self-insulation. Furthermore, the mechanical design addresses challenges posed by concealed spaces (e.g., shield tunnels and multi-circuit cable layouts) through the analysis of joint kinematics, drive mechanisms, and dielectric performance. The workspace of the proposed arm is an oblate ellipsoid with minor and major axes measuring 1.25 m and 1.65 m, respectively, covering the concealed space in the cable tunnel, while the arm’s quality is 4.7 kg. The maximum electric field intensity is 74.3 kV/m under 220 kV operating voltage. The field value is less than the air breakdown threshold. The proposed mechanical arm design significantly improves spatial adaptability, operational efficiency, and reliability in HV live-line inspection, offering theoretical and practical advancements for intelligent maintenance in cable tunnel environments. Background: This scoping review aims to map and summarise physical therapy interventions specifically targeting gait and balance in individuals with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT), highlighting commonly applied strategies, methodological limitations, and clinical implications. Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT) is a hereditary neuropathy characterised by progressive motor and sensory impairment, often resulting in reduced mobility, muscle weakness, balance deficits, and fatigue. Although pharmacological options remain limited, rehabilitation is increasingly recognised as a key component of disease management. However, the scope, type, and effectiveness of rehabilitative interventions in CMT remain poorly mapped. Methods: This scoping review was conducted in accordance with the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) methodology and the PRISMA-ScR guidelines. Five databases (PubMed, Cochrane, PEDro, Scopus, and Web of Science) were systematically searched up to March 2024. Studies were eligible if they involved participants with CMT undergoing rehabilitation interventions aimed at improving functional outcomes. Data extraction focused on study characteristics, methods, outcome measures, and results. Results: Eleven studies met inclusion criteria, comprising case reports, cohort studies, and two randomised controlled trials. Interventions included aerobic training, strength and balance exercises, videogame-based home programmes, and multidisciplinary rehabilitation. Most studies reported improvements in walking capacity (e.g., 6MWT, 10MWT), postural balance (e.g., BBS), and lower limb strength (e.g., MRC, dynamometry). Some also showed positive changes in fatigue and quality of life, though data were limited. Methodological heterogeneity and small sample sizes limited comparability and generalisability. Conclusions: Rehabilitation appears to yield meaningful improvements in key functional domains in people with CMT. Tailored, multimodal interventions show promise, though long-term benefits remain underexplored. Future research should adopt standardised protocols and outcome measures to better define best practices and optimise patient care. Full article

This study investigates the convergence of blockchain, artificial intelligence (AI), near-field communication (NFC), and mobile technologies in electronic payment (e-payment) systems, proposing an innovative integrative framework to deconstruct the systemic innovations and transformative impacts driven by such technological synergy. Unlike prior research, which often focuses on single-technology adoption, this study uniquely adopts a cross-technology convergence perspective. To our knowledge, this is the first study to empirically map the multi-technology convergence landscape in e-payment using scientometric techniques. By employing bibliometric and thematic network analysis methods, the research maps the intellectual evolution and key research themes of technology convergence in e-payment systems. Findings reveal that while the integration of these technologies holds significant promise, improving transparency, scalability, and responsiveness, it also presents challenges, including interoperability barriers, privacy concerns, and regulatory complexity. Furthermore, this study highlights the potential for convergent technologies to unintentionally deepen the digital divide if not inclusively designed. The novelty of this study is threefold: (1) theoretical contribution—this study expands existing frameworks of technology adoption and digital governance by introducing an integrated perspective on cross-technology adoption and regulatory responsiveness; (2) practical relevance—it offers actionable, stakeholder-specific recommendations for policymakers, financial institutions, developers, and end-users; (3) methodological innovation—it leverages scientometric and topic modeling techniques to capture the macro-level trajectory of technology convergence, complementing traditional qualitative insights. In conclusion, this study advances the theoretical foundations of digital finance and provides forward-looking policy and managerial implications, paving the way for a more secure, inclusive, and innovation-driven digital payment ecosystem. This article reviews the current scientific literature that relates to automated vehicles (AVs), vehicles controlled by a computer instead of a human driver, and people living with a disability (PLWD). The aim of this review is (1) to explore how AVs might improve mobility for PLWD, (2) to identify research gaps to guide future studies, and (3) to examine the real-world applicability of existing research. A structured search following PRISMA guidelines identified 66 relevant peer-reviewed publications. The findings suggest that AVs hold promise in reducing transport-related social exclusion by increasing autonomy, flexibility, and accessibility for PLWD, thereby supporting the transition toward more inclusive and environmentally sustainable transport systems. However, the potential benefits of AVs for the mobility of PLWD depend on the type of vehicle considered (e.g., private vs. public transport) as well as the potential challenges related to the legal framework, accessibility standards, and addressing PLWD concerns, opinions, and needs. To overcome the existing obstacles to the widespread adoption of AVs and make them a real opportunity for PLWD, collaboration between all stakeholders in the sector (i.e., governments, industries, and disability associations) is needed. The challenges and increasing number of elderly individuals requiring remote monitoring at home highlight the need for technological innovations. This study devised an eHealth mobile application designed to detect abnormal movement behavior and alert caregivers when a lack of movement is detected for an abnormal period. By utilizing the built-in accelerometer of a conventional mobile phone, an application was developed to accurately record movement patterns and identify active and idle states. Fuzzy logic, an artificial intelligence (AI)-inspired paradigm particularly effective for real-time reasoning under uncertainty, was integrated to analyze activity data and generate timely alerts, ensuring rapid response in emergencies. The approach reduced development costs while leveraging the widespread familiarity with mobile phones, facilitating easy adoption. The approach involved collecting real-time accelerometry data, analyzing movement patterns using fuzzy logic-based inferencing, and implementing a rule-based decision system to classify user activity and detect inactivity. This pilot study primarily validated the devised fuzzy logic method and the functional prototype of the mobile application, demonstrating its potential to leverage universal smartphone accelerometers for accessible remote monitoring. Using fuzzy logic, temporal and behavioral symmetry in movement patterns were adapted to detect asymmetric anomalies, e.g., abnormal inactivity or falls. The study is particularly relevant considering lonely individuals found deceased in their homes long after dying. By providing real-time monitoring and proactive alerts, this eHealth solution offers a scalable, cost-effective approach to improving elderly care, enhancing safety, and reducing the risk of unnoticed deaths through fuzzy logic. Interaction with mobile platforms changes users’ emotional and cognitive engagements through various stimuli cues that respond to behavioural intentions. Emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and augmented reality (AR) foster more engagements and transform a new user–platform interaction paradigm in the e-commerce industry. This study signifies the effects of artificial intelligence and augmented reality in assessing user experience for mobile platforms. In this paper, we develop an interaction–engagement–intention model that considers users’ continuance intention based on perceived user experience. The proposed model uniquely explains a nuanced understanding of how the user–platform interactions evolve interactivity, product fit, artificial intelligence-driven recommendation, and online reviews in perceiving spatial presence and subjective norm. This paper explores the importance of attitude and trust as emotional states that influence the user’s behavioural responses. We validate the consequences of user–platform interactions toward continuance intention by conducting an online questionnaire survey and assessing user experience in augmented reality environments. The results contribute to adopting the co-created values of user–platform interactions through cognitive and emotional engagements that affect users’ continuance intention. The platform industry can apply the research outcomes by considering user experience and its implications to enhance the platforms’ capability with a broader aspect. Full article

A novel interactive maintenance method for space station in-orbit devices using scene semantic segmentation technology is proposed. First, a wearable and handheld system is designed to capture images from the astronaut in the space station’s front view scene and play these images on a handheld terminal in real-time. Second, the proposed system quantitatively evaluates the environmental lighting condition in the scene by calculating image quality evaluation parameters. If the lighting condition is not proper, a prompt message will be given to the astronaut to remind him or her to adjust the environment illumination. Third, our system adopts an improved DeepLabV3+ network for semantic segmentation of these astronauts’ forward view scene images. Regarding the improved network, the original backbone network is replaced with a lightweight convolutional neural network, i.e., the MobileNetV2, with a smaller model scale and computational complexity. The convolutional block attention module (CBAM) is introduced to improve the network’s feature perception ability. The atrous spatial pyramid pooling (ASPP) module is also considered to enable an accurate calculation of encoding multi-scale information. Extensive simulation experiment results indicate that the accuracy, precision, and average intersection over the union of the proposed algorithm can be better than 95.0%, 96.0%, and 89.0%, respectively. And the ground application experiments have also shown that our proposed technique can effectively shorten the working time of the system user. Full article

In this paper, we investigate a low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite-enabled mobile edge computing (MEC) network, where multiple cache-enabled LEO satellites are deployed to address heterogeneous content requests from ground users. To evaluate the network’s capability in meeting user demands, we adopt the average quality of experience (QoE) of the users as the performance metric, defined based on the effective transmission rate under communication interference. Our analysis reveals that the average QoE is determined by the content caching decisions at the satellites, thereby allowing us to formulate an average QoE maximization problem, subject to practical constraints on the satellite caching capacity. To tackle this NP-hard problem, we design a two-stage content caching algorithm that combines divide-and-conquer and greedy policies for efficient solution. The numerical results validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. Compared with several benchmark schemes, our algorithm achieves notable improvements in terms of the average QoE while significantly reducing caching costs, particularly under resource-constrained satellite settings. Background/Objectives: Effective communication between healthcare professionals and patient caregivers is paramount in the surgical waiting area, particularly during periods of heightened stress and emotional vulnerability. Globally, communication practices exhibit considerable variability, from traditional face-to-face interactions to integrating advanced digital technologies. Despite innovations, a comprehensive understanding of the impact of diverse communication strategies on patient caregiver satisfaction remains underdeveloped. This scoping review was designed to systematically map the existing literature on healthcare communication practices and identify strategies that may influence satisfaction among patient caregivers. Methods: A thorough search of multiple databases—Scopus, PubMed, CINAHL, Embase, ProQuest, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, and clinical trial registries—was conducted. Only studies published in English or those for which an English full text was accessible were included. Eligible studies were those undertaken in hospital settings, including operating theaters, surgical units, surgical waiting areas, postoperative intensive care units, emergency departments, and other clinical areas focusing on patient caregivers. The review adhered to the methodological framework recommended by the Joanna Briggs Institute for scoping reviews and was reported following the most recent PRISMA-ScR guidelines. Results: Ultimately, five studies met the inclusion criteria. The selection process involved a structured search utilizing Medical Subject Headings (MeSH), keywords, and index terms, supplemented by manual reference list screening. Initial screening was performed based on titles and abstracts, followed by full-text evaluation using a standardized selection form. Data extraction focused on the communication methods, study designs, and outcomes related to patient caregiver satisfaction. The findings are synthesized narratively and presented through tables and figures, offering a comprehensive overview of global communication practices and their influence on patient caregiver satisfaction in surgical environments. Across the five included studies, digital communication interventions such as SMS, mobile apps, or video updates reported improved patient caregiver satisfaction (e.g., 70.8% in Canada and 97% in Switzerland) and also reduced patient caregiver anxiety (e.g., STAI score ≥ 44) in 74.2% of Ethiopian patient caregivers. Worldwide evidence highlights the practical importance of tailored digital communication practices to support providing timely and accessible information to patient caregivers, while also revealing gaps linked to insurance status, digital literacy, and various communication approaches in healthcare systems. Conclusions: The five studies included showed considerable variation in communication practices across surgical settings. The main findings reveal that structured, timely, and transparent communication, mainly via digital tools such as SMS updates and mobile applications, enhanced patient caregiver satisfaction and alleviated their emotional distress too. Nevertheless, gaps were identified in postoperative communication, and challenges, such as technological accessibility, digital literacy skills of patient caregivers, and inconsistent methods for measuring satisfaction outcomes, were noted across studies. This scoping review identified the different types of healthcare communication practices adopted globally in surgical care settings and also demonstrated their influence on patient caregiver satisfaction. Traditional and digital communication practices both have their significant impact on patient caregiver experiences in surgical healthcare settings, focusing more on timely and consistent real-time updates and culturally sensitive information. Addressing the existing communication gaps and having tailored communication approaches to specific contexts may lead to improved patient caregiver support and surgical outcomes. Full article
