Band clustering has been widely used for hyperspectral band selection (BS). However, selecting an appropriate band to represent a band cluster is a key issue. Density peak clustering (DPC) provides an effective means for this purpose, referred to as DPC-based BS (DPC-BS). It uses two indicators, cluster density and cluster distance, to rank all bands for BS. This paper reinterprets cluster density and cluster distance as band local density (BLD) and band distance (BD) and also introduces a new concept called band prominence value (BPV) as a third indicator. Combining BLD and BD with BPV derives new band prioritization criteria for BS, which can extend the currently used DPC-BS to a new DPC-BS method referred to as band density prominence clustering (BDPC). By taking advantage of the three key indicators of BDPC, i.e., cut-off band distance bc, k nearest neighboring-band local density, and BPV, two versions of BDPC can be derived called bc-BDPC and k-BDPC, both of which are quite different from existing DPC-based BS methods in three aspects. One is that the parameter bc of bc-BDPC and the parameter k of k-BDPC can be automatically determined by the number of clusters and virtual dimensionality (VD), respectively. Another is that instead of using Euclidean distance, a spectral discrimination measure is used to calculate BD as well as inter-band correlation. The most important and significant aspect is a novel idea that combines BPV with BLD and BD to derive new band prioritization criteria for BS. Extensive experiments demonstrate that BDPC generally performs better than DPC-BS as well as many current state-of-the art BS methods. Full article

The mega-launch of low Earth orbit satellites (LEOs) represents a critical opportunity to integrate navigation and communication (NavCom), but first, challenges related to signal design must be overcome. This article proposes a novel signal scheme named CE-OFDM-PM. Via research on the in-band or adjacent band, it was found that the proposed signal scheme was suitable for S-band and had a wide normalized power spectrum density (PSD), high peak-to-side lobe ratio (PSR), and multiple peaks in autocorrelation. In an analysis of the simulation performance evaluation in navigation and communication, it is found that the proposed signal scheme has the potential for high accuracy, a code tracking accuracy of up to 0.85 m, a small mutual influence between the proposed signal scheme and other schemes, excellent anti-interference properties, and a better performance at both short and long distances in terms of its anti-multipath capability. Furthermore, the proposed signal scheme shows the ability to communicate between satellites and the ground and is outstanding in terms of its bit error rate (BER), CNR, and energy per bit to noise power spectral density ratio (Eb/N0). From the technical, theoretical, and application perspectives, our proposed signal scheme has potential as an alternative scheme in future BDS, PNTs, and even 5G/B5G. Full article

Two-dimensional MX2 (M = Mo, W; X = S, Se, Te) homo- and heterostructures have attracted extensive attention in electronics and optoelectronics due to their unique structures and properties. In this work, the layer-dependent electronic and optical properties have been studied by varying layer thickness and stacking order. Based on the quantum theory of atoms in molecules, topological analyses on interatomic interactions of layered MX2 and WX2/MoX2, including bond degree (BD), bond length (BL), and bond angle (BA), have been detailed to probe structure-property relationships. Results show that M-X and X-X bonds are strengthened and weakened in layered MX2 compared to the counterparts in bulks. X-X and M-Se/Te are weakened at compressive strain while strengthened at tensile strain and are more responsive to the former than the latter. Discordant BD variation of individual parts of WX2/MoX2 accounts for exclusively distributed electrons and holes, yielding type-II band offsets. X-X BL correlates positively to binding energy (Eb), while X-X BA correlates negatively to lattice mismatch (lm). The resulting interlayer distance limitation evidences constraint-free lattice of vdW structure. Finally, the connection between microscopic interatomic interaction and macroscopic electromagnetic behavior has been quantified firstly by a cubic equation relating to weighted BD summation and static dielectric constant. To keep the global navigation satellite system functional during extreme conditions, it is a trend to employ autonomous navigation technology with inter-satellite link. As in the newly built BeiDou system (BDS-3) equipped with Ka-band inter-satellite links, every individual satellite has the ability of communicating and measuring distances among each other. The system also has less dependence on the ground stations and improved navigation performance. Because of the huge amount of measurement data, the centralized data processing algorithm for orbit determination is suggested to be replaced by a distributed one in which each satellite in the constellation is required to finish a partial computation task. In the present paper, the balanced extended Kalman filter algorithm for distributed orbit determination is proposed and compared with the whole-constellation centralized extended Kalman filter, the iterative cascade extended Kalman filter, and the increasing measurement covariance extended Kalman filter. The proposed method demands a lower computation power; however, it yields results with a relatively good accuracy. Full article
