Due to their lightweight characteristics, spatial thin-film structures can generate vibrations far exceeding their film thickness when subjected to external loads, which has become a key factor limiting their performance. This study examines the vibration characteristics of tensioned membrane structures with non-uniform elements subjected to impacts in air, leveraging the Absolute Nodal Coordinate Formulation (ANCF). This model takes into account the wrinkling deformation of thin films under pre-tension and incorporates it into the dynamic equation derived using the absolute node coordinate method. A detailed discussion was conducted on the influence of non-uniform elements, situated at different locations and side lengths, on the vibration characteristics of the thin film. The analytical results obtained from the vibration model were compared with the experimental results, validating the effectiveness of the vibration model. This provides a theoretical foundation for the subsequent vibration control of thin films. Full article

In recent years, flexible continuum robots have been substantially developed. Absolute nodal coordinates formulation (ANCF) gives a feasible path for simulating the behavior of flexible robots. However, the model of finger-shaped robots is often regarded as a cylinder and characterized by a beam element. Obviously, this is short of characterizing the geometrical feature of fingers in detail, especially under bending conditions. Additionally, for the lower-order plate element, it is hard to characterize the bending behavior of the flexible finger due to fewer nodes; a higher-order plate element often requires an extremely long computing time. In this work, an improved ANCF lower-order plate element is used to increase the accuracy of the Yeoh model and characterize the geometrical structure of silicone rubber fingers, taking into particular consideration the effect of volume locks and multi-body system constraints. Since it is a kind of lower-order plate element, essentially, the computing time is nearly the same as that of conventional lower-order plate elements. The validity of this model was verified by comparing it with the results of the published reference. The flexible finger, manufactured using silicone rubber, is characterized by the novel ANCF lower-order plate element, whereby its mechanical deformation and bending behavior are simulated both efficiently and accurately. Compared to the ANCF beam element, conventional lower-order plate element, and higher-order plate element, the novel plate element in this paper characterizes the external contour of the finger better, reflects bending behavior more realistically, and converges in less computing time. In order to study the influence of compliance parts on spatial multibody systems, a rigid-flexible coupling dynamic equation of a spatial crank-slider mechanism is established based on the finite element method. Specifically, absolute node coordinate formulation (ANCF) is used to formulate a three-dimensional, two-node flexible cable element. The rigid-flexible coupling dynamic equation of the mechanism is derived by the Lagrange multiplier method and solved by the generalized α method and Newton–Raphson iteration method combined. Comparison of the kinematics and dynamics response between rigid-flexible coupling system and pure rigid system implies that the flexible part causes a certain degree of nonlinearity and reduces the reaction forces of joints. The elastic modulus of the flexible part is also important to the dynamics of the rigid-flexible multibody system. With smaller elastic modulus, the motion accuracy and reaction forces become lower. The dynamics of mesh reflectors are characterized by large deformation when antennas undergo a large motion in the deployment process. In this work, absolute node coordinate formulation (ANCF), with the merit of precise description of large deformation, is employed to consider the flexibility of the reflector net. From a practical perspective, the effect of the torsional spring is incorporated into the dynamic governing equations by an equivalent mechanical model. Deployment simulation of the mesh reflector antennas is performed by a numerical procedure. It can be found that with the action of a degenerative driven force caused by the friction effect, the deployed process of antennas exhibits a character of asynchronous deployment. Additionally, a significant increase in tension during the final period of deployment has an intense influence on smooth deployment. Full article
