The Ordovician strata in Northern Tarim host extensively developed carbonate karst reservoirs that contain abundant hydrocarbon resources. However, owing to extreme burial depths, pronounced heterogeneity, and limited seismic resolution within the Tarim Basin, the diagenetic fluid types and their specific influences on reservoir development remain poorly understood. Consequently, this study integrates core observation, thin-section identification (TSI), cathodoluminescence (CL), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), stable isotopes (C, O, Sr), trace and rare earth elements (REE), fluid inclusion analysis (FIA), and in situ laser U-Pb dating (U-Pb). This multifaceted petrographic and geochemical approach characterizes the macro- and microscopic geological features of these karst reservoirs. By elucidating the types, timing, and phases of diagenetic fluids, this research evaluates fluid-driven impacts on reservoir quality and establishes a comprehensive genetic model for reservoir evolution. Results identify five distinct tectonic fracturing phases. Phases 1, 2, and 4 involved calcite infilling precipitated from seawater and meteoric freshwater, with fluid inclusion homogenization temperatures of 62–87 °C, 57–91 °C, and 94–126 °C, formed during the Caledonian–Hercynian, Early Hercynian, and Indosinian–Yanshanian periods, respectively. Phase 3 featured hydrothermal dolomite infilling during the Hercynian, with fluid inclusion homogenization temperatures ranging from 128 to 163 °C, whereas Phase 5 remained unfilled during the Himalayan. Constrained by the U–Pb age interval of 445.2–436.5 Ma acquired from vug-filling calcite together with cross-cutting petrographic relationships, multi-stage meteoric freshwater dissolution mainly occurred from Middle Caledonian Episode III (447–443.7 Ma) to the Early Hercynian (460–359 Ma). Reservoirs within the Penglaiba–Lower Yingshan Formations underwent a complex evolution comprising syngenetic-to-early diagenetic pore development, Middle Caledonian–Early Hercynian weathering crust karstification and dedolomitization, and Late Hercynian hydrothermal dissolution-infilling, ultimately resulting in the formation of tectonic-karst composite reservoirs. The substantial burden of cardiovascular disease (CVD) attributable to air pollution remains a critical public health challenge, yet its combined effect with cardiometabolic factors is not fully understood. This study leveraged data from the Global Burden of Disease Study (GBD) and the China High Air Pollutants (CHAP) database to evaluate the CVD burden attributable to air pollution, which was found to increase progressively with age. We conducted a cross-sectional analysis using baseline (2011) data from 7420 participants aged ≥ 45 years in the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), and a prospective cohort analysis in 8792 participants followed through 2020. In the longitudinal analysis, long-term exposure to PM2.5 (HR = 1.09, 95% CI: 1.03–1.16) and PM10 (HR = 1.07, 95% CI: 1.04–1.10) was significantly associated with an elevated risk of incident CVD, whereas the association for NO2 was nominally significant (HR = 1.12, 95% CI: 1.00–1.24) and that for O3 was not statistically significant (HR = 1.08, 95% CI: 0.93–1.27). Furthermore, prolonged exposure to these pollutants was associated with a higher prevalence of hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia, and obesity, and with adverse levels of metabolic indicators, including the TyG, TyG-BMI, and TyG-WC indices. A random forest model showed modest discrimination for incident CVD (AUC = 0.656), identifying PM10 and PM2.5 as the most important predictors. In conclusion, long-term exposure to ambient air pollution, particularly particulate matter, is associated with an increased risk of CVD and cardiometabolic disorders in middle-aged and older Chinese adults. Background: Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS), previously known as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), is one of the most common endocrine disorders affecting women of reproductive age and represents a major cause of infertility worldwide. It is associated with hormonal imbalance, ovulatory dysfunction, and metabolic disturbances, all of which can significantly impair reproductive outcomes and quality of life. We aimed to investigate the metabolic and hormonal markers in infertile women who had PMOS in one of the rapidly developing Middle Eastern countries. Methods: This was a retrospective observational cohort study conducted at the Military Medical Specialist Center in Qatar (2019–2024). Data were extracted from patient medical records, including demographic characteristics, clinical presentation, hormonal profiles, metabolic parameters, and details of fertility treatment. Women aged 18–40 years diagnosed with PMOS according to the Rotterdam criteria were included. Correlation coefficient analysis was performed to assess the associations between PMOS-related factors. Patients were categorized by BMI (normal, overweight, and obese). Results: The mean age of patients was 31.9 ± 5.3 years, and 43.8% of patients were obese. Primary infertility was more frequent than secondary infertility (61.8% vs. 38.2%). Women with secondary infertility were significantly older and had higher body mass index (BMI) (p = 0.001 and p = 0.01, respectively). Insulin resistance was prominent (mean Homeostatic Model Assessment for Insulin Resistance [HOMA-IR] of 4.04) and increased significantly with the increase in BMI (p = 0.01). BMI showed positive correlations with serum levels of glucose, insulin, HOMA-IR, and testosterone. Hormonal parameters were largely comparable between infertility groups, except for lower FSH levels in secondary infertility (p = 0.04). The proportion of PMOS based on the HOMA-IR category was 5.6% (HOMA-IR < 1.0), 23.4% (HOMA-IR 1–1.99), 20.2% (HOMA-IR 2–2.99), and 50.8% (HOMA-IR > 3.00). In PMOS patients, there was a significant association between obesity and HOMA-IR, with each 1-unit increase in HOMA-IR associated with a 14% increase in odds (crude odds ratio 1.14; 95% confidence interval 1.02–1.28, p = 0.02). Also, obesity was associated with low LH/FSH (crude odds ratio, 0.67; 95% CI, 0.45–0.99; p = 0.04). Results: The mean age of patients was 31.9 ± 5.3 years, and 43.8% of patients were obese. Primary infertility was more frequent than secondary infertility (61.8% vs. 38.2%). Insulin resistance was prominent (mean HOMA-IR 4.04) and increased significantly across BMI categories (3.0 in normal-weight vs. 4.8 in obese women, p = 0.01). BMI was positively correlated with HOMA-IR (r = 0.17, p = 0.02) and testosterone levels (r = 0.18, p = 0.01). Secondary infertility became more frequent with increasing BMI (p = 0.02). Each 1-unit increase in HOMA-IR was associated with a 14% increase in the odds of obesity (OR 1.14, 95% CI 1.02–1.28, p = 0.02). Conclusions: Among infertile women with PMOS, obesity and insulin resistance were prominent metabolic characteristics. These findings support routine screening for insulin resistance, particularly in overweight and obese women, together with weight management and individualized fertility treatment based on BMI and metabolic profiles. Background: Depressive symptoms have become a significant public health issue faced by middle-aged and older adults in China. Although previous studies have primarily focused on demographic and socioeconomic factors, the association between modifiable lifestyle behaviors and depressive symptoms still requires further investigation. Objective: To examine the associations between sleep duration, physical activity, digital participation, social participation, and depressive symptoms as well as life satisfaction among middle-aged and older adults in China. Methods: A cross-sectional analysis was conducted using data from the 2020 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Survey (CHARLS). Depressive symptoms were defined as CES-D-10 scores ≥10, with 13,576 individuals included in the analysis sample. Adjusted prevalence ratios (aPRs) were estimated using modified Poisson regression, while ordinal logistic regression was employed to analyze life satisfaction. The analysis controlled for covariates such as demographics, socioeconomic status, and health status, and accounted for the complex sampling design. Results: The weighted prevalence of depressive symptoms was 44.5%. Sleep deprivation (<7 h/day) was significantly associated with elevated depressive symptoms (aPR = 1.49, 95% CI: 1.33–1.68); participation in recreational activities was significantly associated with reduced depressive symptoms (aPR = 0.86, 95% CI: 0.77–0.96); adequate physical activity was associated with a higher prevalence of elevated depressive symptoms (aPR = 1.17, 95% CI: 1.04–1.32); watching videos (aPR = 0.87, 95% CI: 0.76–0.99) and playing online games (aPR = 0.65, 95% CI: 0.50–0.83) were significantly associated with reduced depressive symptoms; and overall internet use was correlated with lower life satisfaction (OR = 0.90, 95% CI: 0.81–1.00). Women, rural residents, and low-income groups exhibited higher prevalence of elevated depressive symptoms. Conclusion: Sleep deprivation, as well as different types of social engagement, physical activity, and digital behavior, exhibit distinct associations with depressive symptoms in middle-aged and older adults. Behavioral intervention strategies targeting sleep hygiene, leisure activities, and tailored digital behaviors warrant further attention. Full article

Pain arising from the lumbosacral region is a recognized cause of poor performance and impaired welfare in horses. However, structural changes in the intertransverse joints (ITJs), lumbar articular process joints (APJs), and lumbosacral intervertebral discs (LSDs) may also occur in asymptomatic horses, complicating interpretation of imaging findings.This study evaluated these structures in 14 middle-aged Warmblood cadavers that were not lame according to the owners prior the onset of the problem that resulted in euthanasia or slaughter and correlated ultrasonographic (US) and computed tomographic (CT) findings with histopathology. Transrectal US was used to assess ITJs and LSDs, followed by helical CT. Histological examination was performed on randomly selected specimens (ITJs n = 13, APJs n = 5, LSDs n = 5). Imaging and histological scores were analyzed using Spearman’s rank correlation. Mild imaging abnormalities were common across all structures. In intertransverse joints, CT findings correlated significantly with histological scores (ρ = 0.679, p = 0.011), whereas US findings did not. APJs had mild CT changes without significant association with histology. LSDs had subtle imaging changes, with a significant correlation between US and CT scores (ρ = 0.748, p < 0.01) but not with histopathology. Overall, mild imaging changes were frequent and may reflect adaptive or early maladaptive modeling rather than clinically relevant disease. Full article

Background: Subjective cognitive complaints (SCCs) are common in middle-aged and older adults and may reflect early cognitive changes, alongside alterations in stress, mood, sleep, and quality of life. N-PEP-12 is a peptide-based nutritional supplement with potential neuroprotective effects, but evidence of its benefits in healthy adults with SCCs remains limited. Objective: To evaluate the effects of N-PEP-12 supplementation on attention, cognitive function, and mental wellbeing in healthy middle-aged and older adults with SCCs. Methods: In this prospective, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, 276 participants aged 50–75 years with SCCs and no clinically significant cognitive impairment were randomized to placebo, N-PEP-12 45 mg, or N-PEP-12 90 mg. Assessments were performed at baseline and after 30, 90, and 180 days. Primary outcomes included Test of Attentional Performance measures. Secondary outcomes included WAIS-IV Digit Span Forward and Backward, perceived stress, mood, sleep quality, and EQ-5D-5L visual analog scale. Results: Across the three primary attention outcomes analyzed jointly in a multivariate repeated-measures model, there was a significant group-by-visit interaction (p = 0.003) and a significant effect of visit (p < 0.001), without a significant main effect of treatment arm (p = 0.133), indicating a time-dependent treatment effect. This result was obtained in a sensitivity analysis population in which missing values were imputed under assumptions least favorable to the active arms. In exploratory endpoint-specific comparisons at 90 days, both N-PEP-12 groups showed greater improvements than placebo in alertness, attention omissions and memory omissions, and Digit Span Forward and Backward scores also improved. In a subsequent uncontrolled extension phase, in which all participants received active treatment, participants initially assigned to placebo showed comparable improvements after switching to N-PEP-12 90 mg. These observations are exploratory. Adverse events were infrequent and similarly distributed across groups. Conclusions: N-PEP-12 supplementation was associated with improvements in attention, working memory, and mental wellbeing in healthy middle-aged and older adults with subjective cognitive complaints. These findings support further investigation of N-PEP-12 as a nutritional intervention for early subjective cognitive changes associated with aging. Full article

Epithelioid sarcoma (EPS) is an ultra-rare malignant mesenchymal neoplasm of uncertain differentiation that comprises two distinct clinicopathological subtypes: classic and proximal. Classic EPS most commonly occurs in the distal upper extremity of adolescents and young adults, whereas proximal-type EPS most often affects the truncal regions of young to middle-aged adults. Both classic and proximal-type EPSs exhibit aggressive clinical behavior, including a higher risk of local recurrence and regional lymph node or distant metastasis. Histologically, classic EPS is characterized by irregular nodules composed of epithelioid and spindled cells, while proximal-type EPS consists of multinodular distributions and sheets of large polygonal cells. EPS has a distinctive immunoprofile with characteristic expression of cytokeratins and epithelial membrane antigen. Loss of nuclear expression of SMARCB1 protein occurs in the vast majority of cases. Moreover, SMARCB1 homozygous deletions have also been observed in both subtypes. Surgery is the mainstay treatment approach for localized EPS. Systemic treatment options for metastatic or unresectable locally advanced disease are very limited. The withdrawal of tazemetostat has created a significant gap in available treatment options. In this review, we provide an overview of the current knowledge on the clinical and radiological features, histopathology, immunohistochemistry, pathogenesis, and management of EPS. Full article

Background: Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) was recognized in 2020 as a post-infectious hyperinflammatory condition occurring 2–6 weeks after SARS-CoV-2 infection. While large studies from Europe and North America have described its clinical spectrum and outcomes, evidence from the Middle East remains limited. MIS-C shares features with Kawasaki disease (KD), including persistent fever, mucocutaneous manifestations, and cardiac involvement, but differs in age distribution, gastrointestinal involvement, and patterns of cardiac injury. Objective: To map the reported Middle Eastern evidence on the clinical and laboratory phenotype, Kawasaki-like manifestations, cardiovascular involvement, management, short-term outcomes, and evidence gaps in children with MIS-C. Methods: A scoping review was conducted using the Arksey and O’Malley framework, guided by Joanna Briggs Institute methodology and reported according to PRISMA-ScR. PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science, and the WHO COVID-19 database were searched for studies published from 1 December 2020 through 30 September 2025. Two reviewers independently screened records in Rayyan and charted data using standardized forms. Findings were synthesized descriptively; numerical ranges reflect values reported across selected contributing studies and are not pooled regional estimates. Results: Twenty-seven original clinical studies met the eligibility criteria, including case reports, case series, and observational cohorts from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, and multinational Middle Eastern collaborations. Across the included reports, affected children were generally older than the typical classic Kawasaki disease population. Gastrointestinal symptoms were commonly reported, and myocardial dysfunction was reported more frequently than coronary artery abnormalities. Most patients received intravenous immunoglobulin, often combined with corticosteroids. Short-term outcomes were generally favorable, but the evidence was heterogeneous and follow-up was limited. No meta-analysis was performed. Conclusions: The available Middle Eastern literature suggests that MIS-C commonly presents in school-aged children with gastrointestinal, mucocutaneous, and myocardial involvement. These patterns are descriptive rather than definitive because the evidence is predominantly retrospective, geographically uneven, and methodologically heterogeneous. The principal contribution of this review is to map the regional literature and identify priorities for prospective, standardized, multicenter studies and long-term follow-up. Full article

Households have been reported to account for more than a third of food waste (FW) generated in the most developed and high-income countries. Despite this, there remains a limited understanding of the behavioural and sociodemographic factors driving household food waste (HFW) generation in most countries, including the Republic of Ireland (ROI). This study therefore examined how behavioural practices and sociodemographic characteristics independently and interactively influence HFW generation in the ROI. Data from a national online survey (n = 966 households; 3163 individuals) were analysed using hierarchical quantile regression. Households with children (Mixed households) reported the highest HFW (1177 g/household/week), and single-adult households recorded the highest per capita median waste (females = 596.0 g/cap/week and males = 496.5 g/cap/week). Behavioural factors were stronger predictors than sociodemographic characteristics. Reliance on date labels was the strongest predictor of HFW, associated with an additional 239 g/week. Each additional weekly shopping trip was associated with 140 g/week more waste, whereas using a shopping list was associated with 42 g/week less waste. Some effects were moderated by sociodemographic factors: reliance on date labels was more strongly associated with waste among adults aged 18–24, and shopping frequency more strongly associated with waste in middle-income households. The findings point to the value of reforming date labelling, supporting more planned shopping, and encouraging the active reuse of leftovers, with attention to differences across household groups. The findings also have direct implications for Ireland’s obligations under SDG 12.3 and the EU Waste Framework Directive. Full article

Background/Objectives: Incidental findings (IFs) on emergency computed tomography (CT) are increasingly common as cross-sectional imaging utilization expands. Data from the Middle East are limited. We aimed to determine the report-documented frequency, anatomical distribution, and proportion of clinically actionable IFs on emergency abdominopelvic CT examinations at a tertiary-care center in southwestern Saudi Arabia. Methods: This retrospective cross-sectional study reviewed 705 consecutive emergency abdominopelvic CT examinations performed at King Fahd Central Hospital, Jazan, between 1 January 2023 and 31 December 2025. Two senior radiology residents (R3 and R4) extracted findings unrelated to the presenting indication from consultant-approved reports, applying a predefined terminology-standardization framework. Clinical actionability was defined a priori as a documented recommendation for further evaluation or follow-up. Descriptive statistics with 95% Wilson confidence intervals (CI) were calculated using R Software. Results: At least one IF was identified in 138 of 705 examinations, yielding a patient-level report-documented rate of 19.6% (95% CI 16.8% to 22.7%). A total of 255 IFs were recorded, averaging 1.85 findings per affected patient. The mean age was 42.3 ± 18.2 years; 78 patients (56.5%) were male and 116 (84.1%) were Saudi nationals. Findings were most often within the abdominopelvic cavity (159; 62.4%), followed by miscellaneous (64; 25.1%) and thoracic-vascular (32; 12.5%). At the secondary-category level, the most prevalent groups were spine (38; 14.9%), hepatobiliary (37; 14.5%), and genitourinary (31; 12.2%). Documented further work-up was recommended in 48 of 138 patients with IFs (34.8%; 95% CI 27.3% to 43.0%). Conclusions: Approximately one in five emergency abdominopelvic CT examinations contained incidental findings, with one-third requiring further evaluation. Spine, hepatobiliary, and genitourinary findings were most common. Variability in reported rates likely reflects differences in study methods and definitions. Future multicenter studies should evaluate standardized reporting approaches and follow-up strategies, together with their impact on reporting consistency, downstream investigations, and patient outcomes. Stroke remains one of the leading causes of death and long-term neurological disability worldwide, while currently available therapeutic strategies are limited by narrow treatment windows and incomplete neuroprotection. In this context, plant-derived polyphenols have attracted increasing attention as potential adjunctive agents because of their multimodal biological activity. This review focuses on resveratrol and curcumin, two of the most extensively investigated polyphenols, and evaluates their potential role in the prevention and treatment of ischaemic and haemorrhagic stroke. Evidence from in vitro studies, animal models, and early clinical trials indicates that both compounds may attenuate key mechanisms involved in stroke-related brain injury, including oxidative stress, neuroinflammation, mitochondrial dysfunction, apoptosis, autophagy dysregulation, blood–brain barrier disruption, and microglial activation. Emerging evidence further suggests that interactions with the gut microbiota and modulation of the gut–brain axis may contribute to their biological effects by influencing intestinal barrier integrity, microbial metabolite production, systemic inflammation, and vascular risk. Preclinical studies show that resveratrol and curcumin can reduce infarct volume, limit cerebral oedema, preserve neuronal viability, promote angiogenesis and neurogenesis, and improve neurological and cognitive outcomes. Their beneficial effects have been reported both when administered before stroke onset and after cerebral injury, suggesting potential relevance for both prevention and post-stroke therapy. However, interpretation of these findings requires consideration of the translational limitations of experimental stroke models, which do not fully reproduce the heterogeneity, comorbidities, age profile, and variable reperfusion patterns characteristic of human stroke. Although commonly used models such as middle cerebral artery occlusion provide important mechanistic and therapeutic insights, preclinical efficacy should therefore not be regarded as a direct predictor of clinical benefit. Resveratrol and curcumin may also complement established and emerging treatment strategies, including thrombolysis, endovascular interventions, antihypertensive therapy, and stem cell-based approaches. Nevertheless, their clinical translation remains limited by poor solubility, low bioavailability, rapid metabolism, and insufficient clinical evidence. Novel formulations, including nanoparticles, exosome-based delivery systems, and structurally modified analogues, may help overcome these barriers by improving brain targeting and therapeutic efficacy. Overall, resveratrol and curcumin represent promising but still investigational candidates for adjunctive stroke therapy, requiring further well-designed clinical trials to define their optimal dosing, timing, safety, and clinical value. Background: Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection and the primary etiological agent of cervical cancer. Despite the high global disease burden, the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region faces substantial challenges in HPV prevention and control. This narrative review aimed to synthesize existing evidence on the prevalence, genotypic distribution, awareness, vaccination status, clinical outcomes, and the role of HPV in non-cervical malignancies in the MENA region. Methods: PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar were searched, and 122 studies were included. Findings were synthesized qualitatively and descriptively. Cohort studies, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses were prioritized to support inferences about associations and potential causal relationships. Results: HPV prevalence in the general female population of the MENA region ranged from 4.7% to 53.3%, exceeding 90% in high-risk groups and patients with malignancies. The most common genotypes were HPV16 and HPV18; however, distribution patterns varied across populations. Key risk factors included younger age, multiple sexual partners, early age at first sexual intercourse, smoking, and alcohol consumption. General awareness was low to moderate, and vaccination coverage was very low in most countries. Barriers included lack of knowledge, fear of side effects, religious concerns, and social stigma. Evidence also indicates an association between HPV and non-cervical malignancies (head and neck, esophageal, gastric, breast, and thyroid cancers), with HPV DNA detected in tumor tissues. Conclusions: HPV poses a significant public health challenge in the MENA region, characterized by high prevalence, genotypic diversity, limited knowledge and awareness, and unsatisfactory vaccination coverage. Expanding screening and vaccination through financial support, culturally and religiously appropriate education, and longitudinal studies to monitor genotypic changes and associations with other malignancies are essential measures to reduce the burden of HPV-related diseases in the region. Background: Executive functions (EFs) are cognitive and emotional abilities that underpin goal-directed behavior, decision-making, and problem-solving. EFs can be categorized into two broad types, Hot EFs and Cool EFs, distinguished by their relation to emotional processing. Cool EFs are associated with cognitive control, while Hot EFs involve emotional regulation and decision-making in emotionally charged contexts. EFs contribute to self-regulation, including the ability to adjust behavior in response to feedback. Methods: The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between Hot (decision-making under uncertainty) and Cool (cognitive flexibility) EFs in middle childhood. To assess these dimensions of EFs, we used two tasks, the Iowa Gambling Task (IGT) and the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST), completed by children (N = 90) aged 6–12 years. Results: Traditional WCST indices of cognitive flexibility were not associated with IGT performance. Using hierarchical linear regression models, the most significant overlap concerns the negative relationship between post-loss adjustment in the WCST (post-loss reaction time—plRT) and learning across the IGT (learning index—LI). Children who responded faster after negative feedback (plRT ↓) showed greater improvement in advantageous choice over the course of the task (LI ↑). Conclusions: The findings suggest that decision-making in the IGT is more closely linked to dynamic, process-based aspects of self-regulation than to static measures of cognitive flexibility. It can be concluded that the relationship between WCST and IGT during middle childhood is best described as weak, process-specific, and developmentally modulated, indicating that Cool and Hot EFs are partially distinct yet interconnected systems. Objective: Our objective was to describe morphologic features and longitudinal changes observed on high-resolution vessel wall imaging (HR-VWI) in a selected retrospective case series of patients evaluated for suspected inflammatory intracranial vasculopathy. Methods: This retrospective case series included patients who underwent 3T intracranial HR-VWI for suspected inflammatory intracranial vasculopathy. Clinical and imaging data were collected from medical records and imaging archives. Three radiologists reviewed baseline and follow-up examinations for vessel wall enhancement (VWE) pattern and grade, wall thickness, luminal narrowing, arterial distribution, diffusion-restricted lesions, and susceptibility-sensitive findings. Analyses were descriptive and patient-level. Each patient contributed one baseline and one final examination to longitudinal summaries; intermediate scans characterized individual trajectories only. Results: Nineteen patients were included, and 17 underwent serial HR-VWI. Median age was 46 years (IQR, 35.5–60.0 years), and 11 patients were female. Follow-up HR-VWI was available in 17 patients over a median of 391 days (IQR, 237–1819 days; range, 15–4034 days). VWE was present in all patients, with a purely concentric pattern in 15/19 (78.9%). The middle cerebral and internal carotid arteries were involved in 17/19 and 13/19 patients, respectively. Among the 17 patients with paired examinations, VWE grade decreased in 13 patients (76.5%) and remained stable in four patients (23.5%), with the median decreasing from 3.0 to 1.0. Maximum wall thickness decreased in 16 patients and remained stable in one, with the median changing from 2.0 mm to 1.4 mm. Conclusions: In this selected retrospective case series of patients evaluated for suspected inflammatory intracranial vasculopathy, 3T HR-VWI commonly demonstrated concentric VWE and provided descriptive longitudinal information regarding enhancement evolution. These findings should not be interpreted as evidence of diagnostic performance. Full article

As global aging accelerates, identifying age- and lifestyle-associated gut microbiota alterations has become critical for understanding healthy aging and microbiota-targeted interventions. To explore the associations of age and lifestyle factors with gut microbiota profiles in community-dwelling adults, 159 Chongqing residents were divided into young (18–39, n = 44), middle-aged (40–59, n = 71) and elderly (60–89, n = 44) groups. Fecal samples were analyzed by 16S rRNA gene sequencing, and lifestyle factors were assessed using a study-specific structured questionnaire. The Shannon index differed significantly between the young and middle-aged groups (p < 0.05), whereas other α-diversity and β-diversity analyses showed no significant differences. Age-related shift trends included decreased Bacillota and increased abundance of Bacteroidota. Young adults were enriched in Parasutterella, the [Eubacterium] ventriosum group and Anaerostipes; middle-aged adults were enriched in Clostridium sensu stricto 4, Clostridium sensu stricto 1 and Holdemanella; and elderly adults were enriched in Prevotellaceae UCG-004, Helicobacter, Lactobacillus, Streptococcus and Fusobacterium. Lifestyle factors were independently associated with specific microbial signatures, including tea-related enrichment of Catenibacterium and Escherichia–Shigella, exercise-related enrichment of Dialister and Bavariicoccus, and milk-related enrichment of Bacillus and Klebsiella (formerly Raoultella). Overall, these findings provide population-based evidence linking age and lifestyle factors with gut microbial profiles and may inform microbiota-targeted strategies for healthy aging. Full article
