Tissue hypoxia is commonly observed in head cancers and contributes to both molecular and functional changes in tumour cells. It is known to stimulate erythropoiesis, angiogenesis, and metabolic alterations within tumour cells. Glioblastoma, a type of brain tumour, is characterized by rapid proliferation and aggressive growth. Recent studies have indicated that natural products may hold potential as components of cancer therapy. Among these, Polish propolis and its active compound, quercetin, have demonstrated promising anti-cancer properties. The aim of this study was to evaluate the concentrations of selected cytokines—specifically IL-6, IL-9, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF-BB), interferon gamma-induced protein 10 (IP-10), and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1)—produced by astrocytes of the CCF-STTG1 cell line. The cytotoxic effects of ethanolic extract of propolis (EEP) and quercetin were assessed using the MTT assay. Astrocytes were stimulated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS, 200 ng/mL) and/or IFN-α (100 U/mL), followed by treatment with EEP or quercetin (25–50 µg/mL) under hypoxic conditions for two hours. Cytokine concentrations were measured using the xMAP Luminex Multiplex Immunoassay and the Multiplex Bead-Based Cytokine Kit. Our study demonstrated that Polish propolis and its component quercetin modulate the tumour microenvironment in vitro, primarily by altering the levels of specific cytokines. The HCA analysis revealed that IL-6 and MCP-1 formed a distinct cluster at the highest linkage distance (approximately 100% of Dmax), suggesting that their expression patterns are significantly different from those of the other cytokines and that they are more similar to each other than to the rest. PCA analysis showed that EEP-PL (50 μg/mL) with IFN-α and EEP-PL (50 μg/mL) with LPS exert similar activities on cytokine secretion by astrocytes. Similar effects were demonstrated for EEP-PL 50 μg/mL + LPS + IFN-α, EEP-PL 25 μg/mL + IFN-α and EEP-PL 25 μg/mL + LPS + IFN-α. Our findings suggest that Polish propolis and quercetin may serve as promising natural agents to support the treatment of stage IV malignant astrocytoma. Background/Objectives: The clinically validated multiplex Oncuria bladder cancer (BC) assay quickly and noninvasively identifies disease risk and tracks treatment success by simultaneously profiling 10 protein biomarkers in voided urine samples. Oncuria uses paramagnetic bead-based fluorescence multiplex technology (xMAP®; Luminex, Austin, TX, USA) to simultaneously measure 10 protein analytes in urine [angiogenin, apolipoprotein E, carbonic anhydrase IX (CA9), interleukin-8, matrix metalloproteinase-9 and -10, alpha-1 anti-trypsin, plasminogen activator inhibitor-1, syndecan-1, and vascular endothelial growth factor]. Methods: In a pilot study (N = 36 subjects; 18 with BC), Oncuria performed essentially identically across three different common analyzers (the laser/flow-based FlexMap 3D and 200 systems, and the LED/image-based MagPix system; Luminex). The current study compared Oncuria performance across instrumentation platforms using a larger study population (N = 181 subjects; 51 with BC). Results: All three analyzers assessed all 10 analytes in identical samples with excellent concordance. The percent coefficient of variation (%CV) in protein concentrations across systems was ≤2.3% for 9/10 analytes, with only CA9 having %CVs > 2.3%. In pairwise correlation plot comparisons between instruments for all 10 biomarkers, R2 values were 0.999 for 15/30 comparisons and R2 ≥ 0.995 for 27/30 comparisons; CA9 showed the greatest variability (R2 = 0.948–0.970). Standard curve slopes were statistically indistinguishable for all 10 biomarkers across analyzers. Conclusions: The Oncuria BC assay generates comprehensive urinary protein signatures useful for assisting BC diagnosis, predicting treatment response, and tracking disease progression and recurrence. The equivalent performance of the multiplex BC assay using three popular analyzers rationalizes test adoption by CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments) clinical and research laboratories. The Luminex multiplex assay for the definition of HLA antibodies was introduced 20 years ago. To date, although the assay is simple and straightforward, the interpretation of the results remains a conundrum. Making use of the so-called mean fluorescence value only does not help since this value is relative, the day-to-day variation is significantly large, and the user variation is beyond acceptable ranges. Within the same range of problems, the cutoff value used to classify HLA-specific antibodies as being either present or absent varies between laboratories. This threshold influences clinical decision-making. In addition, the readout value is used to diagnose the amount of HLA-specific antibodies after treatments like absorption, plasmapheresis, or transplantation, overlooking the relative nature of the value. In this study, we show bead variability for HLA class I and HLA class II based on negatively defined bead reactions with a mean fluorescence value below 1500 and self-antigens. In an effort to circumvent the assay’s inherent problems, we introduced the term ratio. For each serum sample, a paired sample from before the treatment is run in parallel. The ratio of post-treatment to pre-treatment can then be used to characterize antibody dynamics: a ratio above 1 reflects increased antibody production and a ratio below 1 indicates a decrease in antibodies in the serum. This value may offer the possibility to make more informed and adaptive treatment decisions. Full article

Background: The majority of gliomas are astrocytic in nature. Gliomas have the lowest survival rate among all tumors of the central nervous system (CNS), characterized by high aggressiveness and poor response to treatment. The tumor microenvironment is a source of cytokines such as IL-6, IFN-γ, VEGF, and PDGF-BB, secreted mainly by tumor and immune cells. These cytokines play a significant role in angiogenesis, invasion, and metastasis formation. In vitro and in vivo studies have shown that Brazilian green propolis, derived from Baccharis dracunculifolia DC and rich in artepillin C, exhibits anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, chemopreventive, and anticancer activities. Additionally, it can penetrate the blood–brain barrier, demonstrating neuroprotective effects. The aim of the present study was to determine the concentration of selected cytokines produced by astrocytes of the CCF-STTG1 cell line, isolated from the brain of a patient with stage IV glioma (astrocytoma). Methods: The cytotoxicity of the EEP-B was evaluated using the MTT assay. Astrocytes were stimulated with LPS at a final concentration of 200 ng/mL and/or IFN-α at 100 U/mL, followed by incubation with EEP-B (25–50 µg/mL) and artepillin C (25–50 µg/mL) under 2-h hypoxia and normoxia conditions. Cytokine concentrations were measured using the xMAP Luminex Multiplex Immunoassay and the Multiplex Bead-Based Cytokine kit. Results: The absence of cytotoxic effects of EEP-B and artepillin C on human astrocytes of the CCF-STTG1 lineage was demonstrated. Stimulation with LPS, IFN-α, and their combination (LPS + IFN-α) significantly increased the secretion of the tested cytokines compared to the control cell line. The most pronounced and statistically significant reduction in cytokine levels, particularly IL-6 and VEGF, was observed following EEP-B treatment at both tested concentrations under both hypoxic and normoxic conditions. Conclusions: Brazilian green propolis may serve as a potential immunomodulator in combination therapies for gliomas of varying malignancy grades. Full article

Sequential Vaccination Against Streptococcus pneumoniae Appears as Immunologically Safe in Clinically Stable Kidney Transplant Recipients

Background: Vaccination against Streptococcus pneumoniae is advised for transplant recipients to reduce morbidity and mortality associated with invasive pneumococcal disease. However, data on alloantibodies after sequential vaccination (with a pneumococcal conjugate vaccine followed by a polysaccharide vaccine) are still lacking. Methods: In the current study, we determined HLA class I and II and major histocompatibility class I-related chain A (MICA) antibodies in 41 clinically stable kidney transplant recipients. These antibodies were measured prior to and post sequential pneumococcal vaccination over a period of 12 months. Alloantibodies were measured by Luminex bead-based assays, and pneumococcal IgG antibodies were measured by ELISA. Results: Over a 12-month period, the sequential analysis revealed no significant change in alloantibodies. One patient developed de novo donor-specific antibodies (DSA) 1.5 months after the first vaccination, with mean fluorescence intensities of up to 2300. These DSA became undetectable in the follow-up, and the patient showed no signs of allograft rejection. Another patient experienced a biopsy-proven borderline rejection 7 months after the first vaccination but did not develop de novo DSA. Both maintained stable kidney function. As expected, the pneumococcal antibodies increased significantly after vaccination (p < 0.0001). Conclusions: Given the overall risk of alloimmune responses in transplant recipients, we would not attribute the two noticeable patient courses to vaccination. Thus, we consider sequential vaccination immunologically safe. Full article

Background: Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) involves myocardial remodeling, characterized by significant fibrosis and extracellular matrix expansion. These changes impair heart function, increasing the risk of heart failure and sudden cardiac death. This study investigates the prognostic value of circulating fibrosis biomarkers as a less invasive method in DCM patients. Methods: Plasma samples from 185 patients with confirmed DCM were analyzed to measure 13 circulating biomarkers using Luminex bead-based multiplex assays and ELISA. The prognostic value of these biomarkers was evaluated concerning heart failure-associated events and all-cause mortality. Results: Elevated MMP-2 levels (>1519.3 ng/mL) were linked to older age, higher diabetes prevalence, lower HDL, increased NT-proBNP and hs-TnT levels, and severe systolic dysfunction. High TIMP-1 levels (>124.9 ng/mL) correlated with elevated NT-proBNP, more atrial fibrillation, reduced exercise capacity, and larger right ventricles. Increased GDF-15 levels (>1213.9 ng/mL) were associated with older age, systemic inflammation, renal impairment, and poor exercise performance. Elevated OPN levels (>81.7 ng/mL) were linked to higher serum creatinine and NT-proBNP levels. Over a median follow-up of 32.4 months, higher levels of these biomarkers predicted worse outcomes, including increased risks of heart failure-related events and mortality. Conclusions: Circulating fibrosis biomarkers, particularly MMP-2, TIMP-1, GDF-15, and OPN, are valuable prognostic tools in DCM. They reflect the severity of myocardial remodeling and systemic disease burden, aiding in risk stratification and therapeutic intervention. Integrating these biomarkers into clinical practice could improve DCM management and patient prognosis. Full article

Previous investigators have used various anti-HLA-F monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) to demonstrate that the tissue distribution of HLA-F is highly restricted. Notably, these mAbs differed in their immunodiagnostic capabilities. Specifically, mAbs Fpep1.1 and FG1 detected HLA-F intracellularly in B cells but not on the cell surface, whereas mAb 3D11 detected HLA-F on the cell surface. The presence of HLA-F on T cells was recognized by mAb FG1 but not by mAb Fpep1.1. mAb 3D11 detected HLA-F on the cell surface of activated B cells and on peripheral blood lymphocytes, but not on the normal cells. Importantly, mAb 3D11 revealed that HLA-F exists as a heavy chain (HC) monomer, rather than as an HC associated with B2m. Although these mAbs are believed to be specific to HLA-F, their monospecificity has not been formally established, which is critical for immunodiagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Previously, we investigated the diversity of HLA class I reactivities of anti-HLA-E mAbs using HLA-I coated multiplex bead assays on a Luminex platform. We reported that more than 80% of the HLA-E mAbs were cross-reactive with other HLA-I molecules, with exceptionally few truly HLA-E-monospecific mAbs. In the present investigation, we generated IgG mAbs against HCs of HLA-F in Balb/C mice and examined the cross-reactivity of anti-HLA-F mAbs with other HLA-I alleles using a multiplex bead assay on the Luminex platform. Beads coated with an array of HLA homo- and heterodimers of different HLA-Ia (HLA-A, HLA-B, and HLA-C) and Ib (HLA-E, HLA-F, and HLA-G) alleles were used to examine the binding of the anti-HLA-F mAbs. Only two mAbs were HLA-F monospecific, and five were HLA-Ib restricted. Several anti-HLA-F mAbs cross-reacted with HLA-E (n = 4), HLA-G (n = 3), HLA-Ia alleles (n = 9), HLA-G and HLA-Ia (n = 2), and HLA-Ib and HLA-Ia (n = 6). This monospecificity and polyreactivity were corroborated by the presence of HLA-F monospecific and HLA-I-shared sequences. This study emphasizes the need to monitor the mono-specificity of HLA-F for reliable immunodiagnostics and passive immunotherapy. Full article

In distinguishing the allergic asthma (AA) phenotype, it has been identified that specific biomarkers could assist; however, none of them are considered ideal. This study aimed to analyze three groups of biologically active substances in the serum. Twenty steroid-free AA patients, sensitized to Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus, and sixteen healthy subjects (HSs) were enrolled in this study. Blood samples were collected from all patients. Additionally, all AA patients underwent a bronchial allergen challenge (BAC) with Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus, all of which were positive, and blood samples were collected again 24 h later. The concentrations of ten biologically active substances were measured in the serum samples, using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and the Luminex® 100/200™ System technology for bead-based multiplex and singleplex immunoassays. Descriptive and analytical statistical methods were used. A p-value of 0.05 or lower was considered statistically significant. The soluble interleukin 5 receptor subunit alpha (sIL-5Rα) and thioredoxin 1 (TRX1) concentrations were significantly increased, whereas those of tyrosine-protein kinase Met (MET), pentraxin 3 (PTX3), and I C-telopeptide of type I collagen (ICTP) were decreased in the AA group compared with the HS group. A significant positive correlation was noted for sIL-5Rα with fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO), blood eosinophil (EOS) count, and total immunoglobulin E (IgE) levels, and a negative correlation was noted with forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1). Moreover, PTX3 showed negative correlations with blood EOS count and total IgE levels, whereas ICTP exhibited a negative correlation with the blood EOS count. In conclusion, this study demonstrated that the serum concentrations of MET, PTX3, TRX1, ICTP, and particularly sIL-5Rα could potentially serve as biomarkers of the AA phenotype. Full article

Two semi-quantitative, Luminex-based, single-antigen bead (SAB) assays are available to detect anti-HLA antibodies and evaluate their reactivity with complement binding. Sera from 97 patients with positive panel reactive antibody tests (>5%) were analyzed with two SAB tests, Immucor (IC) and One-Lambda (OL), for anti-HLA antibody detection and the evaluation of their complement-binding capacity. IC detected 1608/8148 (mean fluorescent intensity (MFI) 4195 (1995–11,272)) and 1136/7275 (MFI 6706 (2647–13,184)) positive anti-HLA class I and II specificities, respectively. Accordingly, OL detected 1942/8148 (MFI 6185 (2855–12,099)) and 1247/7275 (MFI 9498 (3630–17,702)) positive anti-HLA class I and II specificities, respectively. For the IC assay, 428/1608 (MFI 13,900 (9540–17,999)) and 409/1136 (MFI 11,832 (7128–16,531)) positive class I and II specificities bound C3d, respectively. Similarly, OL detected 485/1942 (MFI 15,452 (9369–23,095)) and 298/1247 (MFI18,852 (14,415–24,707)) C1q-binding class I and II specificities. OL was more sensitive in detecting class I and II anti-HLA antibodies than IC was, although there was no significant difference in the number of class II specificities per case. MFI was higher for complement vs. non-complement-binding anti-HLA antibodies in both assays. Both methods were equal in detecting complement-binding anti-HLA class I antibodies, whereas the C3d assay was more sensitive in detecting complement-binding anti-HLA class II antibodies. Cytokines contribute to the pathogenesis of lupus nephritis (LN), yet their value as prognostic biomarkers is still debated. We aimed to describe the serum cytokines’ profiles and prospectively assess correlations with disease features and renal response in a multicentric cohort of consecutive adult patients with biopsy-proven active LN. Cytokine associations with clinical and serological data were performed at LN diagnosis (T0), and at 3 (T3) and 6 months (T6) of follow up. Renal response according to EULAR definition was assessed at T3, T6 and T12. BAFF and interleukin (IL)-37 were measured by ELISA; IL-2, IL-10, IL-17A and IL-18 by a bead-based multiplex cytokine assay (Luminex). Thirty-nine patients with active LN (age 40.5 ± 15.6 years; F 71.8%; 84.6% proliferative LN) were enrolled, of whom twenty-nine displayed complete longitudinal records. At T0, we observed higher levels of IL-37 and IL-17 in proliferative vs. non-proliferative LN (IL-37: 0.0510 (0.0110–0.2300) vs. 0.0000 (0.0000–0.0397) ng/mL, p = 0.0441; IL-17: 2.0920 (0.5125–17.9400) vs. 0.0000 (0.0000–0.6025) pg/mL, p = 0.0026, respectively), and positive correlations between IL-10 and 24 h proteinuria (r = 0.416, p = 0.0249) and anti-dsDNA levels (r = 0.639, p = 0.0003). BAFF was higher in patients with low complement (p < 0.0001). We observed a sustained correlation between BAFF and IL-10 throughout T6 (r = 0.654, p = 0.0210). Higher baseline IL-37 and BAFF levels were associated with renal response at T3 and T6, respectively, while baseline IL-18 levels were higher in patients achieving response at T12. Our study highlights the complexity of the cytokine network and its potential value as a marker of active LN and renal response. Full article

Clinical Outcome of Kidney Transplant Recipients with C1q-Binding De Novo Donor Specific Antibodies: A Single-Center Experience

Complement activation by HLA antibodies is a key component of immune-mediated graft injury. We examined the clinical outcomes of kidney transplant recipients with complement-fixing de novo donor-specific antibodies (dnDSA) who were followed in our center. The C1q-binding ability was retrospectively assessed in 69 patients with dnDSA and mean fluorescence intensity (MFI) values > 2000 out of the 1325 kidney transplant recipients who were screened for DSA between 2015 and 2019. Luminex IgG single antigen beads (SAB)and C1q-SAB assays (One Lambda) were used. C1q-binding dnDSA was identified in 32/69 (46.4%) of the patients. Significantly higher MFI values were observed in C1q-positive DSA (18,978 versus 5840, p < 0.001). Renal graft biopsies were performed in 43 of the kidney transplant recipients (62.3%) with allograft dysfunction. Antibody-mediated rejection (ABMR) was detected in 29/43 (67.4%) of the patients. The incidence of ABMR was similar among patients with C1q-binding and non-C1q-binding DSA (51.7% vs. 48.3%, p = 0.523). Graft loss occurred in 30/69 (43.5%) of the patients at a median time of 82.5 months (IQR 45–135) from DSA detection. C1q-binding DSA was present in more patients who experienced graft loss (53.1% vs. 35.1%, p = 0.152). Higher MFI values and inferior clinical outcomes occurred in most of the kidney transplant recipients with C1q-binding dnDSA. Full article

Acute appendicitis is an inflammatory process which is one of the most frequent global causes of surgical interventions in children. The goal of the study was to determine whether acute phase proteins, that is, C-reactive protein (CRP), procalcitonin (PCT) and neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), interleukin 6 (IL-6), transforming growth factor-beta1 (TGF-β1) and cortisol (HC) play a role in the pathomechanism of post-trauma stress response of the organism and to establish the impact of the applied surgical procedure and/or of inflammation on their concentrations. An additional purpose was to establish the clinical usefulness of the studied biomarkers in the diagnostics of appendicitis. CRP concentrations were quantified via the immunoturbidimetric method, while the levels of IL-6 and PCT were assessed using a bead-based multiplexed immunoassay system in a microplate format (Luminex xMAP technology); NGAL, TGF-β1 and cortisol concentrations were determined via the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) technique. All the investigated biomarkers were assayed twice, i.e., immediately before the surgery and 12–24 h after its completion. Significant increases in CRP, IL-6 and PCT concentrations were found in all children subjected to laparoscopic surgeries (p = 0.001, p = 0.006, and p = 0.009, respectively) and open (classic) surgeries (p = 0.001, p = 0.016, and p = 0.044, respectively) compared to the initial concentrations. The patients undergoing classical surgery moreover presented with significant (p = 0.002, and p = 0.022, respectively) increases in NGAL and TGF-β1 levels after the procedures. In a group of children undergoing laparoscopic surgery, the appendicitis induced an increase in cortisol concentration, whereas in patients undergoing classical surgery the increase in the levels of this biomarker was caused by the type of performed surgical procedure. Simultaneously assaying the levels of CRP, NGAL and IL-6 (p = 0.008, p = 0.022, and p = 0.000, respectively) may prove useful in clinical practice, enabling the diagnosis of appendicitis in paediatric patients reporting to a hospital with abdominal pains, in addition to data from anamnesis and from clinical or ultrasound examination. The performed study confirms the participation of examined biomarkers in the pathomechanism of post-injury stress reaction of the organism to surgical trauma. Full article

Introduction: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is frequently associated with a chronic inflammatory state and cardiovascular/metabolic complications. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of certain comorbidities on a panel of 45 chemokines and cytokines in OSA patients with special regard to their possible association with cardiovascular diseases. Material and Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed on 61 newly diagnosed OSA patients. For the measurement of the plasma concentration of chemokines and cytokines, the magnetic bead-based multiplex assay for the Luminex® platform was used. Results: In the patients with concomitant COPD, there were increased levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines (CCL11, CD-40 ligand) and decreased anti-inflammatory cytokine (IL-10), while in diabetes, there were increased levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-6, TRIAL). Obesity was associated with increased levels of both pro-inflammatory (IL-13) and anti-inflammatory (IL-1RA) cytokines. Hypertension was associated with increased levels of both pro-inflammatory (CCL3) and anti-inflammatory (IL-10) cytokines. Increased daytime pCO2, low mean nocturnal SaO2, and the oxygen desaturation index were associated with increased levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines (CXCL1, PDGF-AB, TNF-α, and IL-15). Conclusions: In OSA patients with concomitant diabetes and COPD, elevated levels of certain pro-inflammatory and decreased levels of certain anti-inflammatory cytokines may favor the persistence of a chronic inflammatory state with further consequences. Nocturnal hypoxemia, frequent episodes of desaturation, and increased daytime pCO2 are factors contributing to the chronic inflammatory state in OSA patients. Full article

Background: Immunoglobulin E (IgE)-mediated cow’s milk allergy (CMA) can be life-threatening and affects up to 3% of children. Hypoallergenic infant formulas based on hydrolyzed cow’s milk protein are increasingly considered for therapy and prevention of cow’s milk allergy. The aim of this study was to investigate the allergenic activity and ability to induce T cell and cytokine responses of an infant formula based on extensively hydrolyzed cow’s milk protein (whey) (eHF, extensively hydrolyzed formula) supplemented with Galactooligosaccharides (GOS) and Limosilactobacillus fermentum CECT5716 (LF) to determine its suitability for treatment and prevention of CMA. Methods: eHF and standard protein formula based on intact cow’s milk proteins (iPF) with or without Galactooligosaccharide (GOS) and Limosilactobacillus fermentum CECT5716 (LF) were investigated with allergen-specific antibodies and tested for IgE reactivity and allergenic activity in basophil degranulation assays with sera from cow’s milk (CM)-allergic infants/children. Their ability to stimulate T cell proliferation and cytokine secretion in cultured peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) from CM-allergic infants and children was studied with a FACS-based carboxyfluorescein diacetate succinimidyl ester (CFSE) dilution assay and xMAP Luminex fluorescent bead-based technology, respectively. Results: An eHF supplemented with GOS and LF exhibiting almost no IgE reactivity and allergenic activity was identified. This eHF induced significantly lower inflammatory cytokine secretion as compared to an intact protein-based infant formula but retained T cell reactivity. Conclusions: Due to strongly reduced allergenic activity and induction of inflammatory cytokine secretion but retained T cell reactivity, the identified eHF may be used for treatment and prevention of CMA by induction of specific T cell tolerance. Tuberculosis (TB) management is important for prompt discrimination of latent TB infection (LTBI) from active TB and proper treatment. Whole blood Interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) release assay (IGRA) is used to diagnose LTBI based on the secretion of IFN-γ by T-cells in the whole blood by using a specific antigen of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. However, the ability of IGRA to distinguish active TB from LTBI is considerably limited. Distinguishing active TB from LTBI is necessary to identify indicators that can be used to effectively manage TB and develop diagnostic methods. In the present study, we used a Luminex multiplex bead array (a bead-based antibody–antigen sandwich method). The whole blood level of acute phase proteins (APPs), such as endoglin (ENG), procalcitonin (PCT), C-reactive protein (CRP), and α1-acid glycoprotein (AGP), in active TB, LTBI, and healthy individuals were analyzed and quantified. The APP test results for the serum and whole blood samples showed that the levels of PCT, CRP, and AGP were significantly increased (p < 0.0500; area under curve = 0.955) in active TB. The level of these markers in the whole blood of active TB, LTBI, and healthy individuals could provide data for effective diagnosis and treatment of TB. Full article
