Two structurally tunable (propyl-3-ol)triphenyltin(IV) (Ph3SnL1) and (butyl-4-ol)triphenyltin(IV) (Ph3SnL2) compounds were investigated at the human serum transferrin (Tf) molecular interface to resolve how ligand architecture and protein metallation modulate organotin(IV) biocompound stability and lobe-selective binding. Steady-state fluorescence spectroscopy revealed efficient quenching of native Tf emission (λex = 280 nm, 296–310 K, pH 7.4) without significant spectral displacement, indicating the predominant formation of non-fluorescent ground-state complexes. Calculated bimolecular quenching constants (Kq ~1012 M−1 s−1) exceeded the diffusion-controlled aqueous limit, ruling out a collisional dynamic quenching mechanism and confirming static complexation as the principal origin of fluorescence suppression. Double-log binding analysis revealed moderate affinity (Ka ~102–103 M−1) and an approximately single dominant binding event per protein (n ≈ 0.65–0.90). Temperature-dependent van’t Hoff evaluation yielded positive ΔH° and ΔS° values, supporting a spontaneous, entropy-favored association process largely governed by hydrophobic and dispersion-type contributions, consistent with lipophilic organotin(IV) scaffold accommodation. Iron (Fe3+) loading of Tf markedly enhanced ligand engagement, especially for Ph3SnL1, evidencing that metallation-induced lobe closure reshapes pocket accessibility and local polarity relevant for organotin(IV) binding presentation rather than simply strengthening empirical docking scores. Molecular docking localized the most stable Ph3SnL2 poses in the sterically confined, rigid C-lobe, while Ph3SnL1 preferentially penetrated the more adaptive N-lobe. ONIOM QM/MM refinement of docking poses confirmed strong interfacial stabilization (ΔEint ≈ –38 to –62 kcal mol−1) and clarified charge–packing interplay without invoking frontier orbital analysis. The results map multiscale structure–interaction relationships defining lobe preference and complex stability at the transferrin interface. Full article

This paper analyzes different approaches for the mathematical modeling and optimization of process parameters in the hard turning process of 42CrMo4 steel using a hybrid approach combining response surface methodology (RSM), multi-criteria decision making (MCDM), and machine learning through, support vector regression (SVR) with one-factor-at-a-time (OFAT) sensitivity analysis. Controlled process parameters such as cutting speed, depth of cut, feed, and insert radius are applied to conduct the experiments based on a full factorial experimental design. RSM was used to develop models that describe the effect of controlled parameters on surface roughness and cutting forces. Special emphasis was placed on the analysis of standardized residuals to evaluate the predictive capabilities of the RSM-developed model on an unseen data set. For all four outputs considered, analysis of the standardized residuals shows that over 97% of the points lie within ±3 standard deviations. A multi-criteria optimization technique was applied to establish an optimal combination of input parameters. The SVR model had high performance for all outputs, with coefficient of determination values between 89.91% and 99.39%, except for surface roughness on the test set, with a value of 9.92%. While the SVR model achieved high predictive accuracy for cutting forces, its limited generalization capability for surface roughness highlights the higher complexity and stochastic nature of surface formation mechanisms in the turning process. OFAT analysis showed that feed rate and depth of cut have been shown to be the most important input variables for all analyzed outputs. Full article

Background: Neuromodulation encompasses a range of methods aimed at selectively modifying nervous system function to enhance motor and neurophysiological processes. Although neuromodulation suits have shown benefits in clinical populations, their application in sports remains unexplored. Therefore, the aim of this case study was to examine the acute effects of a neuromodulation suit on the contractile properties of the rectus femoris muscle in an elite football player. Methods: The subject was an 18.8-year-old male professional football player. After conducting an anthropometric evaluation, initial tensiomyography (TMG) was carried out to evaluate the contractile properties of the rectus femoris, such as delay time (Td), contraction time (Tc), sustain time (Ts), relaxation time (Tr), and maximum radial displacement (Dm), in both legs. The athlete then donned a neuromodulation suit set to 20 Hz for a duration of 60 min. Following this, the same TMG measurements were repeated to assess post-intervention changes. Results: The right leg showed a reduction in Tc from 33.33 to 31.93 milliseconds (ms); Dm increased from 6.61 to 11.17 millimeters (mm). Conversely, the left rectus femoris exhibited prolonged Tc from 26.84 to 29.45 ms. Conclusions: A single 60 min session of neuromodulation suit application produced acute changes in muscle contractile properties. Findings suggest a potential positive effect on rapid force production and reduced muscle stiffness, alongside notable inter-limb variability. Full article

Modern power transmission systems are required to meet increasingly stringent demands, including a wide range of transmission ratios, compact dimensions, high precision, energy efficiency, reliability, and thermal stability under dynamic operating conditions. Among the solutions that satisfy these requirements, cycloidal reducers are particularly prominent, with their application continuously expanding in industrial robotics, computer numerical control (CNC) machines, and military and transportation systems, as well as in the satellite industry. However, as with all mechanical power transmissions, friction in the contact zones of load-carrying elements in cycloidal reducers leads to power losses and an increase in operating temperature, which in turn results in a range of adverse effects. These undesirable phenomena strongly depend on lubrication conditions, namely on the type and properties of the applied lubricant. Although manufacturers’ catalogs provide general recommendations for lubricant selection, they do not address the fundamental tribological mechanisms in the most heavily loaded contact pairs. At the same time, the available scientific literature reveals a significant lack of systematic and experimentally validated studies examining the influence of lubricant type on the energetic and thermal performance of cycloidal reducers. To address this identified research gap, this study presents an analytical and experimental investigation of the effects of different lubricant types—primarily greases and mineral oils—on the thermal stability and efficiency of cycloidal reducers. The results demonstrate that grease lubrication provides lower total power losses and a more stable thermal operating regime compared to oil lubrication, while oil film thickness analyses indicate that the most unfavorable lubrication conditions occur in the contact between the eccentric bearing rollers and the outer raceway. These findings provide valuable guidelines for engineers involved in cycloidal reducer design and lubricant selection under specific operating conditions, as well as deeper insight into the lubricant behavior mechanisms within critical contact zones. Alfalfa anthracnose is an economically significant disease that leads to substantial biomass losses due to stem rot, reduced stand longevity, and a decline in forage nutritional quality. The disease is caused by multiple species within the genus Colletotrichum, including the 14 described species: C. gloeosporioides, C. truncatum, C. lindemuthianum, C. destructivum, C. dematium, C. trifolii, C. medicaginis, C. graminicola, C. coccodes, C. sojae, C. spinaciae, C. lini, C. americae-borealis, and C. tofieldiae. A thorough understanding of key aspects of the pathogen’s biology, along with its epidemiology, infection cycle, and accurate disease diagnosis, is essential for the development of sustainable management strategies. Knowledge of these factors allows us to anticipate disease outbreaks, implement timely interventions, and design integrated control measures that reduce reliance on chemical fungicides while maintaining crop productivity and forage quality. Although anthracnose management has traditionally relied on synthetic fungicides, this review synthesizes alternative control strategies to clarify the current state of knowledge and to provide new insights into the development of effective and sustainable approaches for managing Colletotrichum species. Erysiphe corylacearum, the causal agent of powdery mildew in hazelnut (Corylus avellana L.), has become an emerging pathogen of concern in Italian hazelnut production requiring rapid and accurate detection to support timely disease management and phytosanitary measures. We developed and validated a field-deployable loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) assay for the specific detection of E. corylacearum and evaluated three primer sets targeting the Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS) region, RNA polymerase II second largest subunit (rpb2), and glutamine synthetase (GS) genes; the GS-targeting Ecg set showed the highest sensitivity and specificity. The assay was shown to be sensitive down to 200 fg of fungal DNA, efficiently detected E. corylacearum from diluted crude leaf extracts, and produced results within half an hour, allowing the detection of latent infections before visible symptoms emerged. On-site validation with a portable LAMP instrument showed the assay’s suitability for field-deployable diagnosis and early-warning applications in hazelnut orchards. Full article

Promising approach for the expansion of the functional food sector is combining various ingredients with potential health benefits. The aim of this study was to create protein aggregates by freeze-drying encapsulation. Rice or pea proteins were used as carriers for encapsulation of chokeberry juice polyphenols. Additionally, disaccharides (sucrose and trehalose) were added to explore possible enhancement of encapsulation of polyphenols. Two methods were employed for complexation of ingredients prior to freeze-drying: one based on complexation of all ingredients at the same time and the other on complexation first of proteins with disaccharides and then with chokeberry juice. All parameters affected the binding of polyphenols on proteins. Total polyphenols, proanthocyanidins, individual polyphenols, and antioxidant potentials of created protein aggregates were determined. When rice protein was the main carrier, the addition of disaccharides caused a decrease in total polyphenols and proanthocyanindins contents (22.41–24.01 mg GAE/g and 6.36 mg–7.28 PB2E/g, respectively) in comparison to aggregates without their addition (28.03 mg GAE/g and 8.57 mg PB2E/g, respectively). In the case of pea proteins, a different trend was observed. Aggregates without disaccharide addition had a lower amount of total polyphenols and proanthocyanindins (21.25 mg GAE/g and 5.56 mg PB2E/g, respectively) than those with disaccharide addition (21.42–26.44 mg GAE/g and 6.37 mg–9.45 PB2E/g, respectively). Interactions between compounds were proven through IR spectra, and they included changes in amid structures, as well as hydrogen bonds and hydrophobic interactions. Such formulated plant-based protein aggregates can be used in the food industry for the enrichment of foods with polyphenols, incensement of antioxidant potential, and prolonging stability of products. In this article, the authors address the Serbian media narrative about the EU’s communication on lithium mining in Serbia. In an effort to answer the question of how this narrative can influence the positioning of the EU on Serbia as a candidate country for EU membership, the authors have made a research based on a quantitative–qualitative analysis of media coverage, drawing on a sample of 192 articles (N = 192) published by four Serbian online news portals (RTS, N1, B92, and Blic). The analysis leads to two main conclusions: (1) It indicates an inversion in the general approach to foreign policy orientation across the analyzed media platforms. The customary discourses on Serbia’s foreign policy trajectory temporarily diverged from established patterns—specifically, the fervently pro-Western orientation characteristic of anti-government platforms and the ostensibly West-sceptical orientation typical of pro-government media. This reinforces the argument that the primary structuring line of media discourse in Serbia lies in the division between pro-regime and anti-regime orientations. (2) Media repositioning has exerted a pronounced negative effect on pro-European segments of the Serbian public, reactivating the thesis of “stabilocracy”, conceptualized as the dynamic relationship between authoritarian regimes in the Balkans and their external supporters. According to the authors, the EU’s inability to anticipate the drastic negative shift in public sentiment toward it—particularly among those segments of Serbian society that had been most supportive—or, alternatively, its decision to continue pursuing its own economic interests despite such awareness, underscores the profound flaws in the political communication it employed in this case. Gastrointestinal nematodes, particularly Haemonchus contortus, represent a major threat to ruminant health and productivity worldwide, largely due to the widespread emergence of anthelmintic resistance. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, benzimidazole resistance has previously been confirmed in domestic ruminants; however, data on wildlife remain lacking. Given the frequent spatial and temporal overlap between domestic and wild ruminants on shared pastures, this study aimed to investigate the occurrence of benzimidazole-resistant H. contortus genotypes within a multi-host system. During the 2024/2025 season, a total of 111 abomasal samples were collected from sheep (n = 20), lambs (n = 12), goats (n = 17), roe deer (n = 40) and chamois (n = 22) across four localities in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Laktaši, Banja Luka, Modriča and Višegrad). Adult H. contortus specimens were morphologically identified and confirmed using real-time quantitative PCR (rt-qPCR). Benzimidazole resistance was assessed by allele-specific rt-qPCR targeting the F200Y mutation in the β-tubulin isotype 1 gene. Statistically significant interspecies differences in β-tubulin genotype distribution were observed (p < 0.05), primarily driven by variation in the homozygous resistant (RR) genotype. High RR prevalence was detected in sheep (60%), lambs (50%) and roe deer (52.5%), whereas lower proportions were observed in chamois (27.3%) and goats (23.5%). Overall, 44.1% of all analyzed H. contortus isolates carried homozygous resistant alleles, indicating an advanced stage of benzimidazole resistance within this multi-host system. These findings demonstrate that benzimidazole resistance in H. contortus is not confined to domestic livestock but is also present in wild ruminants sharing the same grazing areas, consistent with circulation of resistant parasites within shared grazing systems. The aim of this research was to examine the possibility of achieving optimum texture and rheological properties of cocoa spreads produced with cocoa shell, xylitol, and stevia as sugar replacers using different vegetable fats (palm and coconut oil). Samples with different proportions of cocoa shell and sweeteners used to completely replace sugar were produced under laboratory conditions, and rheology, texture, colloidal stability, and particle size were determined. The results showed that texture properties (spreadability and firmness) and yield stress directly correlated with the type of fat used in the recipe, with the best values obtained for coconut fat. Cocoa shell addition increases Casson plastic viscosity (from approximately 2 to 7 Pas) but may reduce Casson yield stress if added in a proportion up to 25% (from approximately 26 to 18 Pa for samples produced with a combination of palm and coconut oil). Overall, samples with coconut fat had better texture properties regardless of the cocoa shell and sweetener quantities, and the sample with the lowest content of cocoa shell had the best spreadability. By careful adjustment of ingredients and the right choice of substitute fat, sustainable, nutritionally improved cocoa spreads with satisfactory texture and rheology may be produced. Full article

Recent advances in biomaterials, immunomodulation, stem cell therapy, and biofabrication are reshaping maxillofacial surgery, shifting reconstruction paradigms toward biologically integrated and patient-specific tissue regeneration. This review provides a comprehensive synthesis of current and emerging strategies for bone and soft-tissue regeneration in the craniofacial region, with particular emphasis on bioactive ceramics, biodegradable polymers, hybrid composites, and stimuli-responsive smart materials. We further examine translational technologies such as extracellular vesicles, decellularized extracellular matrices, organoids, and 3D bioprinting, highlighting key challenges such as bioink standardization, perfusion limitations, and regulatory classification. Maxillofacial surgery is positioned for a paradigm shift toward personalized, biologically active, and clinically scalable regenerative solutions. Full article

Here, we investigated how biopriming Silene sendtneri seeds with Paraburkholderia phytofirmans PsJN establishes a transcriptional state that predisposes seedlings for improved cadmium (Cd) tolerance. RNA-seq profiling revealed that primed seeds exhibited differential gene expression prior to Cd exposure, with strong upregulation of detoxification enzymes, antioxidant machinery, metal transporters, photosynthetic stabilizers, and osmoprotectant biosynthetic genes. Enrichment of gene ontology categories related to metal ion detoxification, redox homeostasis, phenylpropanoid metabolism, and cell wall organization indicated that biopriming imprints a preparatory transcriptional signature resembling early stress responses. Upon Cd exposure, primed plants displayed enhanced physiological performance, including preserved integrity, elevated antioxidant activity, particularly peroxidases in roots, higher osmolyte accumulation, stabilized micronutrient levels, and substantially increased Cd uptake and sequestration. These coordinated responses demonstrate that biopriming induces a sustained molecular memory that accelerates and strengthens downstream defense activation. These findings demonstrate that PGPR-based biopriming establishes a stable transcriptomic memory in seeds that enhances cadmium tolerance, metal sequestration, and stress resilience, highlighting its potential for improving hyperaccumulator performance in phytoremediation and stress adaptation strategies. Background/Objectives: The COVID-19 pandemic caused over seven million deaths globally as of July 2024. In an attempt to bring the pandemic under control, immunization was implemented as the main preventive strategy. This study aimed to investigate the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of hospitalized patients and healthcare workers (HCWs) regarding COVID-19 vaccination, as well as the factors contributing to COVID-19 vaccination rates. Methods: This cross-sectional, survey-based KAP study was conducted between November 2024 and February 2025 in five hospitals across five cities of the Republic of Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Results: There were 571 respondents, 68% of whom were female, with an average age of 39.17 ± 14.74 years; one-third held a university degree. The study sample consisted of patients and healthcare workers (HCWs) (59% vs. 41%). During the pandemic period, 46.6% of respondents were diagnosed with COVID-19, with a higher prevalence among healthcare workers compared to patients (54.2% vs. 41.2%). Among the 55.2% of respondents who were vaccinated, HCWs were more often vaccinated than patients (70.9% vs. 44.2%) and more likely to know that vaccines protect against severe forms of disease and death (80.8% vs. 68.5%). Patients more often believed that vaccination against COVID-19 may lead to sterility in young patients (11.3% vs. 6%) and were more often afraid of vaccination compared to the occurrence of COVID-19 (35.6% vs. 24.8%). Regression analyses showed that independent predictors of COVID-19 vaccination were older age (p < 0.001), higher education level (p = 0.039), knowledge of vaccine production technology, and the belief that vaccinated individuals have milder symptoms of the disease (p = 0.002). Conversely, the belief that the COVID-19 situation was overblown was negatively associated with vaccination (p = 0.004). Conclusions: HCWs had better knowledge, more positive attitudes, and better vaccination practices against COVID-19 in comparison to patients. However, there are still certain dilemmas and hesitations among HCWs toward COVID-19 vaccination. Full article

The Balkan mountain ranges are major hotspots of genetic diversity and endemism, yet many species remain poorly studied. One such species is Alyssum bosniacum, a narrow endemic of the Central Dinaric Alps. To fill this gap, we examined 143 individuals from 15 populations across the species’ range using flow-cytometric ploidy determination, amplified fragment length polymorphisms (AFLPs), nuclear microsatellites, and chloroplast DNA sequences. Microsatellite data revealed two genetic clusters, showing moderate differentiation and relatively high diversity. AFLP profiles indicated shallow but geographically structured variation, while chloroplast haplotypes showed limited divergence and regional clustering. Our data suggest possible persistence in multiple microrefugia within the Central Dinaric Alps, although further evidence is needed to confirm this scenario. Despite range fragmentation, genetic variation within the population remains high, indicating evolutionary resilience and supporting the species’ long-term future population stability under current conditions. Objectives: This study investigates empathy levels among the public safety personnel and their relationship with current selection indicators (morphological, neuromuscular, and psychological characteristics), highlighting the importance of the topic and its potential for further research. Methods: The research was conducted on a sample of 136 police and national security students. The cross-sectional design was applied. Empathy was assessed with the Interpersonal Reactivity Index. Basic morphological characteristics were measured with a portable stadiometer and the InBody 720 device. Neuromuscular characteristics were measured using a handgrip strength test with a sliding device that measures isometric finger flexor force. Psychological characteristics were assessed using the Big Five Plus Two, the Mental Toughness Index, and the Dark Triad Dirty Dozen questionnaires. Results: Numerous significant differences between female and male participants, as well as gender-specific correlation patterns, were revealed. Female participants expressed more fantasy (3.23 ± 1.05), empathic concern (3.71 ± 0.75), and personal distress (1.76 ± 0.67) than males (2.84 ± 0.84; 3.37 ± 0.71; 1.5 ± 0.53). Among them, negative correlations of psychological distress with conscientiousness (ρ = −0.66) and mental toughness (ρ = −0.59) stand out. Conclusions: This study indicates the possible existence of correlations between empathy, neuromuscular, morphological, and psychological characteristics in public safety personnel of both genders, with gender-specific patterns. Results indicate opportunities for further research aimed at improving the efficiency of the existing selection system. Full article
