Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue focuses on the scientific basis, validation procedures, and practical implementation of the revised Eurocode framework for wind actions. It invites contributions that examine how second-generation provisions can be interpreted, tested, calibrated, and applied through wind tunnel experiments, CFD, full-scale measurements, probabilistic modelling, and engineering case studies for buildings and civil infrastructure.
Its scope includes the characterisation of wind climate and exposure, terrain and topographic effects, pressure and force coefficients, structural dynamics and response, national calibration, and comparisons between code-based predictions and observed or simulated behaviour. The purpose of the issue is to provide a focused forum that links advances in wind engineering research with robust validation and usable design procedures, thereby helping to support confident and transparent implementation of the new code in engineering practice.
Particular emphasis is also placed on contributions that clarify the evidential basis needed for implementation across different national contexts. Papers addressing uncertainty quantification, reliability formats, reproducibility of experimental and numerical workflows, and the traceability of assumptions from research outputs into design recommendations are especially welcome.
The issue also encourages studies that identify where the revised provisions perform well and where further refinement may be needed for complex urban environments, non-standard structures, serviceability assessment, and digitally enabled design workflows.
The issue will complement the substantial literature developed around wind actions, code-based design, and the first generation of EN 1991-1-4 by focusing specifically on the transition to the revised framework. It will provide a focused platform for benchmark studies, comparative assessments, and application papers that support the engineering community. In this way, it will serve as a timely venue for work that translates broader scientific advances into forms that are directly relevant to codification and engineering use.
