Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We have been invited as Guest Editors for a Special Issue on ‘New Insights in Human African Trypanosomiasis’ in the journal Tropical Medicine and Infectious Diseases published by MDPI.

The elimination of human African trypanosomiasis (HAT), or ‘sleeping sickness’, in the Sub-Saharan countries where it is endemic is in sight, thanks to extensive efforts by health personnel and the governments of endemic countries, together with the coordinated support of international partners under the leadership of the WHO.

Many actors have innovated and identified issues that need to be shared with the broader community working towards the elimination of HAT. Our intention with this monograph is to give space and a voice to those working in the field whose experiences could inform the work of others, making future responses to HAT even more effective, in the present context of low prevalence, where treating the remaining small number of cases needed for complete elimination will be increasingly difficult.

We would like to include different types of research, including clinical and social science, economic impact and perspectives, epidemiology, and elimination policy.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
