Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The rapid advancement of digital technologies has significantly transformed the business landscape, offering both opportunities and challenges for small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Digital innovation is no longer just a competitive advantage; it is a necessity for SMEs aiming to thrive in an increasingly digital economy. This Special Issue aims to explore the ways in which digital innovation drives business model transformation in SMEs, examining how new technologies, such as artificial intelligence, big data, cloud computing, and the Internet of Things (IoT), enable these companies to enhance their agility, efficiency, and value creation processes. By investigating various strategies, frameworks, and case studies, this Special Issue seeks to provide a comprehensive understanding of the impact of digital transformation on business models and offer insights into best practices for leveraging digital technologies to sustain growth and competitiveness in the SME sector.
The journal Systems aims to publish research that advances the understanding and application of systems theory, methodologies, and practices across various fields. The proposed Special Issue on "Digital Innovation and Business Model Transformation in Small- and Medium-Sized Enterprises" aligns well with this scope, as it addresses the systemic changes brought about by digital technologies in the business environment.
Digital innovation in SMEs involves complex interactions between technological, organizational, and environmental factors, making it a highly relevant topic for systems research. The transformation of business models requires a systems approach to understand the dynamics of digital integration, process optimization, and value co-creation. This Special Issue will explore the systemic effects of digital transformation on SMEs, including changes in organizational structures, decision-making processes, and external ecosystems.
By focusing on how SMEs can navigate the digital landscape through innovative business model adaptations, this Special Issue aims to contribute to the broader discussion of systems thinking, digital systems design, and adaptive strategies. It will provide insights into the interconnected nature of digital technologies and business processes, promoting a holistic view that is central to the field of systems research.
