Development of New Materials for Textile Engineering

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue, entitled "Development of New Materials for Textile Engineering", aims to publish theoretical and experimental studies as well as reviews related to the most recent and emerging research on textile engineering materials.

Several materials have been developed in the textile engineering field, both with a more sustainable approach and presenting new functionalities. Researchers have applied recycled materials and innovative functionalization processes, aiming at the incorporation of nano/microparticles, fibers and bio-based materials, which can also yield anti-microbial features, among others.

We hereby invite researchers to contribute original innovative research works that will foster the continuous development of advanced concepts for the benefit, in the short- and medium-term, of the scientific community and industrial sectors, with potential impact on specific market niches and end users. Articles dealing with, but not limited to, the following topical subheadings are deemed suitable for publication:

• Reuse of textile wastes in the production of new value-added products;
• Smart textiles and sensors;
• Textiles with new capabilities (anti-microbial, etc.);
• Incorporation and loading of nano/microparticles into/over textiles;
• Advanced characterization of textiles;
• Anti-microbial textiles;
• Surface modification of textiles;
• Biotextiles in biomedical and tissue engineering;
• Development of new fibers by spinning techniques;
• Photocatalytic and self-cleaning textiles;
• Latent heat thermal energy storage including phase-change material (PCM) applications in textiles;
• Application of chromogenic materials (including thermochromic) textiles;
• Environmental and energy applications of bio-nanomaterials within textiles;
• Applications and processes for the functionalization of micro/nanomaterials in textile substrates;
• Textile applications in flexible electronics (printed sensors, actuators, capacitors).

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Solids is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
