Soil Systems 2024 Travel Award
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce that Soil Systems will be granting the Travel Award to one junior scientist. The applications will be assessed by an Evaluation Committee consisting of senior scholars from the Soil Systems Editorial Board.
This award provides financial support for the winner to attend an international conference in the field of soil science to be held in 2024, in order to hold a presentation, present a poster, or both.
Candidate Requirements:
– Postdoctoral fellows or PhD students.
– Plans to attend an international conference in 2024 (oral presentation or poster).
Required Application Documents:
– Information of the conference the applicant is planning to attend and the abstract that will be submitted.
– Curriculum Vitae and list of publications.
– Justification letter describing the focus of the research (max. 800 words).
– Letter of recommendation from the supervisor, research director, or department head, which also confirms the applicant’s status as a postdoctoral fellow/PhD student.
The winner will be awarded CHF 800 and a certificate.
Please submit your applications for the Soil Systems 2024 Travel Award online by 31 January 2024. Prizes will be awarded at the end of March 2024 and announced on the Soil Systems website.

Soil Systems 2023 Outstanding Reviewer Award
Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Dr. Heike Knicker, we wish to acknowledge our reviewers who so generously offer their time to review the papers submitted to Soil Systems. Therefore, we will be presenting an award to the reviewers who have demonstrated their dedication, professionalism, and timeliness in reviewing manuscripts for Soil Systems.
What are the pre-requisites to be eligible for this award?
All of the reviewers for Soil Systems in 2023 will be automatically included.
Selection Criteria:
– Number of review reports;
– The quality and timeliness of review reports.
What will the winner receive?
There will be one winner this year, and the winner will receive the following:
– CHF 500;
– An opportunity to publish a paper free of charge in 2024 after peer review;
– A certificate.
When will the winner be announced?
The winner will be announced in February 2024 on the journal website.

Soil Systems 2023 Travel Award
Dear Colleagues,
As Editor-in-Chief of Soil Systems, I am pleased to announce the winner of the Soil Systems 2023 Travel Award.
The award has been granted to Dr. Fatemeh Ahmadi, a PhD student at the University of Western Australia, Australia, who will attend the International Conference on Agricultural Soil Science and Soil Analysis, San Francisco, United States. As the awardee, Dr. Fatemeh Ahmadi will receive a prize of CHF 800 and a certificate.
With submissions from many high-quality applicants, the evaluation process and final decision process were challenging. We would like to thank all the applicants for submitting their diverse and fascinating range of research topics. Soil Systems 2020 Travel Award
Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to announce the winner of the Soil Systems 2020 Travel Award.
Dr. Noah Sokol, a postdoctoral researcher in the Physical and Life Sciences Directorate with the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, USA, was selected from a highly competitive field of applicants. His research focuses on how carbon and nutrients cycle through terrestrial ecosystems, and how these cycles can be altered by disturbances like invasive species, planetary warming, and land use change.
Dr. Sokol will receive 800 Swiss Francs to support attendance at any soil-related academic conference in 2020. Congratulations to Dr. Sokol on receiving this highly competitive travel award.

Dr. Jennifer Soong, a postdoctoral researcher in the Climate and Ecosystem Sciences Division at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, USA, was selected from a highly competitive field of applicants. Her research focuses on the pressing issue of terrestrial ecosystem function under various natural and human-influenced environmental conditions.
