Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue focuses on the serious and persistent problem of sexual harassment in employment. Awareness has increased, due in part, to the advent of the #MeToo Movement and social media upon which it has relied. Harassment victims have become more educated and motivated to demand protection.  Employers have been moved to reevaluate the sufficiency and effectiveness of their current anti-harassment policies, reporting procedures, and training. Still, many incidences of workplace harassment continue to go unreported and without remedy.  Further, there is evidence that the #MeToo Movement has caused an unintended fear-based managerial backlash that threatens progress toward gender equality in the workplace. These challenges must be addressed.

Submitted papers should consider such issues as: (1) The types of harassment and the associated costs to employers. (2) Short- and long-term damage to victims of harassment.  (3) Race, national origin, age, and/or wealth-correlated views about sexual harassment. (3) Reasons sexual harassment still goes unreported and policies that encourage reporting. (4) Problems arising from “false claims” or “unclear boundaries.” (5) Chilling of workplace productivity, mentoring, and/or promotion due to fear of harassment claims. (6) The status of civil rights laws and enforcement designed to address sexual harassment. (7) Employer policies and practices useful to prevent harassment and preserve equal employment opportunity.

Theoretical, empirical, and practice-based studies and submissions from any disciplinary and methodological approach are welcome.
