Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Confessional or non-confessional Religious Education in schools is challenged by the increase in non-religious living, the potential for diversity in the classroom, and the emergence of spirituality in many situations without God. The difficulty of teaching and learning about religions, worldviews, and religious and non-religious convictions, as well as the wide range of religious identities, stimulates fruitful discussions regarding the construction of religious identity through Religious Education in schools. Teaching about and from a religious perspective, as well as challenging students to create knowledge positions and persuasive arguments as religious or non-religious individuals, can shape students' religious identities.
Nowadays, all students have the same rights in school, regardless of their religious or nonreligious affiliation or beliefs. Additionally, a democratic culture is being developed through the teaching of curriculum subjects, including Religious Education; thus, pedagogies and didactical approaches are of the utmost importance. Of course, there are opposing views and approaches to many of the ideas described above.
This Special Issue aims to highlight a range of viewpoints, situations, methods and types of Religious Education.
I look forward to receiving your contributions.
