Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The research program on religion and conflict, initiated in the late Cold War in response to events in the Middle East and Eastern Europe, became a mainstream subfield in response to terrorism, wars, and insurgencies of the early 21st century. The thinkers who launched this research agenda thirty and forty years ago, and who produced its first theories, are now senior scholars in their respective disciplines. It is time to create space for junior voices to introduce new questions, tools, and answers to the study of religion and conflict.

We invite junior scholars and scholars who are new to this field to submit innovative manuscripts on any aspect of conflict and religion, broadly construed. We encourage scholarship on understudied religious movements, underexplored forms of conflict (physical, legal, ideational, symbolic) or hitherto neglected parts of the globe. We also welcome analyses of familiar themes in the study of religion and conflict that employ cutting-edge evidence, theories, or analyses. We will consider submissions regardless of methodology or interdisciplinary orientation, but preference will be given to research that combines theoretical and empirical rigor, especially if it displays area studies expertise.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a double-blind peer-review process.
