Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to invite you to contribute to a Special Issue of Religions, entitled “The Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ: Tradition and Postmodern Approaches”.

The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ constitute the cornerstone of the Christian faith, being directly related to the restoration of the human person and of the whole of creation. Over the centuries, the Gospel accounts of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ have generated intense theological debates; they have been challenged by various currents and ideologies (skeptical, Gnostic, and esoteric) and have served as a catalyst for the enrichment of humanity’s cultural heritage (literature, art, etc.). Contemporary postmodern approaches call into question not only the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, but also the Incarnation itself and its salvific purpose. Postmodernism rejects absolute truth, claiming that all knowledge is socially constructed and dependent on the context in which it is articulated; it promotes anthropocentrism by emphasizing each person’s potential to achieve self-fulfillment through their own powers; and it prioritizes personal experience, leading to private forms of religiosity.

Therefore, we are pleased to invite you to contribute to this Special Issue of Religions dedicated to this topic.

This Special Issue aims to offer an overview of the theme from various perspectives, such as biblical and patristic studies, the history of Christianity, the history of religion, mission studies, religious studies, and interreligious relations. We hope that this Special Issue will stimulate research in the aforementioned fields and contribute to a better understanding of the role of Christianity in the current postmodern context.

We request that, prior to submitting a manuscript, interested authors initially submit a proposed title and an abstract of 200–300 words summarizing their intended contribution. Please send this to the Guest Editor or to the Assistant Editor of Religions, Ms. Jaya Liu (jaya.liu@mdpi.com). Abstracts will be reviewed by the Guest Editors for the purposes of ensuring proper fit within the scope of the Special Issue. Full manuscripts will undergo double-blind peer review.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.
