About Psychoactives

Aims

Psychoactives (ISSN 2813-1851) is an international, peer-reviewed, open access journal covering a broad spectrum of the chemical, biological, neurological, medical, environmental, social, and political aspects of psychoactive (i.e., psychotropic) substances. These include general anaesthetics, analgesics, anticonvulsants, antiparkinsonians, antidepressants, depressants (such as anxiolytics, sedatives, and hypnotics), antipsychotics, and antihistamine drugs, ethanol, stimulants, and psychedelics. Also of interest to this journal is the creation of new psychoactive substances by modifying the chemical structure of well-known drugs. We believe that by bringing together experts from all these multidisciplinary fields, we can truly advance the research and development of substances that act primarily on the central nervous system by altering brain function, resulting in temporary changes in perception, awareness, mood, consciousness, and behaviour. Psychoactives focuses on publishing research articles, reviews, and opinion pieces, but other article types will also be considered, alongside Special Issues on particular subjects. Authors are encouraged to publish their results and experimental methodology in as much detail as possible so that they may be reproduced.

Scope

  • Chemistry: Synthesis, structure–activity relationship, extraction and purification techniques, analytical chemistry;
  • Biology: Plant biology (for natural psychoactive substances);
  • Pharmacy: Mode of action, receptor binding, metabolism, absorption and distribution, toxicology;
  • Medicine: Medicinal uses, clinical trials, clinical neurology, psychiatry, addiction studies;
  • Environmental Sciences: Water contamination, psychoactive substances, and their impact on ecosystems;
  • Social and Political: Opioid crisis, homelessness, incarceration, legalization.
