Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to invite contributions to the Special Issue "Advances in Mathematical Methods for Image Processing and Computer Vision" in Mathematics. Image processing and computer vision represent fundamental areas of computational mathematics, where advanced mathematical theories and algorithms are essential for analyzing, interpreting, and understanding visual data. These fields have become increasingly critical in our digital age, with applications spanning autonomous vehicles, medical imaging, surveillance systems, robotics, and augmented reality.

This Special Issue aims to showcase cutting-edge research that bridges theoretical mathematical foundations with practical applications in image processing and computer vision. We seek to explore how mathematical principles—including differential equations, optimization theory, statistical methods, and geometric analysis—drive innovation in visual computing technologies. The integration of rigorous mathematical frameworks with emerging computational techniques highlights the transformative potential of these interdisciplinary approaches.

In this Special Issue, we welcome original research articles and comprehensive reviews that advance the mathematical understanding and practical implementation of image processing and computer vision systems. We encourage submissions that demonstrate both theoretical rigor and real-world applicability, fostering deeper insights into how mathematical methods can solve complex visual computing challenges.

Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following: mathematical foundations of image processing; variational methods and partial differential equations in vision; optimization algorithms for image reconstruction; statistical and probabilistic approaches in computer vision; geometric methods in image analysis; mathematical morphology and topology in imaging; wavelet analysis and multi-resolution techniques; machine learning and deep learning mathematical frameworks for vision; computational photography and image enhancement; and mathematical methods in medical imaging and remote sensing.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Mathematics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
