We are pleased to announce that Prof. Dr. Jeffrey “Jeff” Strock has been appointed as the Section Editor-in-Chief of the “Agricultural Water Management” Section in Agriculture (ISSN: 2077-0472).

Prof. Dr. Strock is a Professor and Soil Scientist at the University of Minnesota. He holds a BSc from the University of Wisconsin – Steven Point (USA), an MSc from Oregon State University (USA), and a PhD from North Carolina State University (USA). During his 25+ year career, Prof. Dr. Strock has led or co-led over 90 agricultural-related research projects, authored or co-authored over 85 peer-refereed journal articles and book chapters, supervised or co-supervised over 10 Master’s/PhD students, and given over 360 extension/outreach presentations. He is a Fellow of the Soil and Water Conservation Society. His innovative work in agricultural drainage water management using in-field, edge-of-field, and beyond-the-field conservation practices has influenced government and farmer approaches to adopting solutions that result in productive, profitable, sustainable, and resilient agricultural systems.

The following is a short Q&A with Prof. Dr. Jeffrey Strock, who shared his vision for the journal with us, as well as his views on this research field and open access publishing:

  1. What appealed to you about the journal that made you want to take on the role as a Section Editor-in-Chief?

First and foremost, the opportunity to serve in the topic area of agricultural water management, which is where I have dedicated the majority of my career’s work, seemed a good fit for me and would allow me to support authors wishing to publish their research efforts in this topic area. I also believe that MDPI has a great opportunity to be looked at as one of the “premier” publishers of scholarly works in this area.

  1. What is your vision for the journal?

My vision is for the journal to be the leading global platform for advancing knowledge on agricultural water management, inspiring researchers to share their work by publishing in our Sections, in particular “Agricultural Water Management”, and connect with a global audience.

  1. What does the future of this field of research look like?

The field of agricultural water management is, and will continue to be, critical in addressing issues of global food security and environmental quality.

  1. What do you think of the development of open access in the publishing field?

The development of open access in publishing has been a positive evolution that has increased the accessibility of research, created greater impact, and opened doors to opportunities for global collaboration. At the same time, it is not without its challenges, mainly with article publication fees, which disproportionately affect researchers from lower-income countries or those without funding.

We warmly welcome Prof. Dr. Jeff Strock as our Section Editor-in-Chief and look forward to his valuable input for the continued success of the “Agricultural Water Management” Section.
