Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

It is our pleasure to announce this  Special Issue devoted to micro-/nanoelectronics, nanotechnology and MEMS, connected to the organization of the 12th International Conference Micro & Nano 2025 (06-09 November 2025, Chania, Crete, Greece)

The Special Issue seeks to cover all the relevant aspects of design, modeling, materials, fabrication, processes, and instrumentation in the wide area of micro- and nanotechnology, including the following:

  • Integrated circuit (IC) and chips design and technology
  • Analog, RF (power) nanoelectronics
  • Beyond CMOS nanoelectronics
  • Photonic circuits and devices, design and instrumentation
  • Optoelectronic devices’ design and technology
  • Advanced materials for micro-/nanoelectronics and photonics
  • Hybrid integration of electronics, semiconductors and photonics on chip
  • Quantum electronics and quantum photonics
  • AI and machine learning in devices’ design and reliability
  • Advanced manufacturing technologies
  • Instrumentation and instruments in the fabrication processes
  • Devices integration, packaging and instrumentation
  • Device/circuit characterization and measurement instrumentation
  • Technoeconomic analysis of devices development and manufacturing processes

The purpose of this Special Issue is to identify diverse and promising technologies that can lead to novel devices and instruments that can be applied in new emerging applications in telecommunications, sensing, aeronautics, biomedical, defense, space, security, quantum computing, etc. Furthermore, the SI seeks to identify common efficient approaches and techniques employed in both microelectronics and photonics towards their efficient hybrid integration on chip for higher functionality in demanding applications such as quantum computing and sensing.

We invite contributions in the form of comprehensive expert reviews, or research articles dealing with all the relevant theoretical and experimental aspects of micro- and nanotechnology, seeking to create a well-balanced collection of papers that will help to map the penetration of various enabling technologies and approaches in emerging application areas and identify also the perspectives and open challenges for future development.

The Special Issue is also open for individual contributions not necessarily associated with the 12th International Conference Micro & Nano 2025

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Instruments is an international peer-reviewed open access quarterly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.

Benefits of Publishing in a Special Issue

  • Ease of navigation: Grouping papers by topic helps scholars navigate broad scope journals more efficiently.
  • Greater discoverability: Special Issues support the reach and impact of scientific research. Articles in Special Issues are more discoverable and cited more frequently.
  • Expansion of research network: Special Issues facilitate connections among authors, fostering scientific collaborations.
  • External promotion: Articles in Special Issues are often promoted through the journal's social media, increasing their visibility.
  • Reprint: MDPI Books provides the opportunity to republish successful Special Issues in book format, both online and in print.
