We are delighted to announce the winners of the Encyclopedia 2022 Outstanding Contributor Award—Dr. Bjørn Grinde and Dr. Bo-Wen Shen. Additionally, we want to thank the award committee for their excellent work in the hard task of selecting a winner from such excellent candidates, as well as everyone who participated in this award and helped ensure it was a huge success!
Both Dr. Bjørn Grinde and Dr. Bo-Wen Shen provided testimonials upon receiving the prizes. Dr. Bjørn Grinde is a Senior Scientist at the Division of Mental and Physical Health, Norwegian Institute of Public Health, Oslo, Norway. He stated:
“It is a great honor to receive the Encyclopedia Outstanding Contributor Award for 2022. I have very positive experiences both with the Encyclopedia journal and with MDPI as a publisher. Their handling of my manuscripts has been highly efficient, professional, and with valuable comments from reviewers. I highly recommend both the journal and publisher, not the least because they make what they publish available. The article I have with the largest citation score (currently 735) was published by an MDPI journal on what I thought was an obscure topic: biophilia.”
Dr. Bo-Wen Shen is an Associate Professor at the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, San Diego State University, San Diego, USA. He claimed:
“All information generated by AI platforms such as ChatGPT, including misinformation, can become a new input which creates a feedback loop and amplifies inaccuracies introduced by the system. As long-term time average errors may exponentially grow, due to the phenomenon known as the butterfly effect that has been studied in nonlinear dynamics, such inaccuracies can have significant consequences. The butterfly effect is a significant challenge for AI platforms such as ChatGPT, which requires a vast and dependable scientific literature database to ensure accuracy and validity. By promoting transparency and accountability, peer-review and open review processes can play a crucial role in addressing this challenge. Therefore, encouraging researchers to contribute their original or review work to Encyclopedia ensures that the scientific literature database will continue to grow and remain dependable.”
As the awardees, they will receive an honorarium of CHF 300, an electronic certificate, and an offer to publish a paper free of charge before the end of 2023 in Encyclopedia (ISSN: 2673-8392) after peer review.
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Bjørn Grinde and Dr. Bo-Wen Shen. We would also like to thank all those from various fields of study for their participation.
