Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Both routine/elective airway management and various difficult/emergency airway scenarios have been the focus of discussion in medical fields (e.g., anesthesia and critical care medicine) since a century ago. In particular, clinical research in difficult airway management has made notable progress in recent decades. Given that endotracheal intubation (together with supraglottic devices and surgical airways) is a high-risk, time-sensitive, skill-intensive procedure, advancements with respect to innovations, tools/techniques, and consensus/guidelines in airway management are continuously evolving. These include endoscopy, virtual endoscopy, airway ultrasound, video endoscopes/supraglottic airways/stylets, hybrid devices, and, promisingly, the role of artificial intelligence. All the aforementioned concepts and practices are expected to enhance the effectiveness, safety, quality, and efficiency of airway management, especially in cases involving anatomical and physiological airway difficulties. We are particularly interested in sharing experiences and ideas about the paradigm shift of the role of styletubation (video intubating stylet technique) within the panorama of airway management. We welcome and encourage all professionals involved in airway management to submit manuscripts to this Special Issue.
