Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Cross-cultural research and human behavioral ecological studies can inform us regarding how and why human cognition, psychology, and behavior are responsive to environmental differences. While cross-cultural approaches enlighten us about the similarities and differences among different societies and cultures, behavioral ecological research can deepen our understanding of social and ecological forces and factors that contribute to human cultural variation and similarities and differences in behavior and cognition. Accordingly, this Special Issue calls for cross-cultural research based on a behavioral ecological approach on human cognition and behavior. Specifically, submissions that consider the influence of environmental conditions such as population size, mortality rate, pathogen/disease prevalence, sex ratio, and availability of resources on shaping human behavior and cognition are encouraged.

In this Special Issue, empirical papers, reviews, and opinions from scholars in the fields of evolutionary psychology, evolutionary anthropology, human behavioral ecology, and other biologically and evolutionary informed approaches to human cognition, behavior, and social psychology are solicited. Specifically, this Special Issue will consider submissions from a cross-cultural approach in all related topics including, but not limited to, mate choice and preference, perception of attractiveness and beauty, sexual behavior, promiscuity, infidelity, parental care and investment, cooperation and conflict, religion and rituals, violence, crime, personality and individual difference, art perception and appreciation, and culture.
