Dear Colleagues,
Rough set theory and fuzzy set theory have emerged as powerful mathematical frameworks for modeling uncertainty, imprecision, and incomplete information. With the growing complexity of real-world systems and the increasing availability of heterogeneous data, there is a pressing need for robust mathematical tools that can support reasoning, decision-making, and knowledge discovery under uncertainty. This Special Issue aims to highlight recent advances in the mathematical foundations of rough and fuzzy set methods and their diverse applications across scientific and engineering disciplines. We invite submissions that address, but are not limited to, the following topics:
- Mathematical foundations of rough and fuzzy sets;
- Fuzzy logic and approximate reasoning;
- Rough approximations and uncertainty modeling;
- Hybrid models combining rough and fuzzy sets;
- Fuzzy rough sets and rough fuzzy sets;
- Granular computing;
- Three-way decisions and decision-theoretic rough sets;
- Granular-ball computing;
- Fuzzy clustering and classification;
- Rough and fuzzy set-based feature selection;
- Data mining and knowledge discovery with uncertainty;
- Applications in artificial intelligence, pattern recognition, medical diagnosis, image processing, and engineering systems;
- Connections to other soft computing paradigms such as neural networks and evolutionary algorithms;
- Algebraic and logical aspects of fuzzy and rough structures.
We also welcome contributions that present novel theoretical insights or innovative applications beyond the listed topics. This Special Issue seeks to provide a platform for researchers from mathematics, computer science, and various applied domains to share their latest findings and foster interdisciplinary collaboration.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Axioms is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
