International Nurses Day—“Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives”, 12 May 2026

International Nurses Day (IND) is an international day observed around the world on 12 May (the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth) each year, to mark the contributions that nurses make to society, with a focus on their irreplaceable role in caring for lives, promoting health, and sustaining public health systems. In 2026, the International Council of Nurses (ICN) announced the annual theme for International Nurses Day, “Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives”, which emphasises empowering nurses with full nursing practice, influence, and leadership through education, professional development, and decision-making participation, enabling them to play an even more proactive role in the front lines of clinical care, in public health governance, and within global health policy.

Nursing Reports (ISSN: 2039-4403) is an international, peer‑reviewed, open access journal on nursing sciences published monthly online by MDPI. The journal is consistently committed to advancing nursing research and development for researchers, educators, and clinical practitioners worldwide through high‑quality peer‑reviewed studies, ensuring that meaningful findings genuinely reach every practitioner and stakeholder who cares about the nursing profession, empowering the field through research and enabling practice through knowledge.
