Laboratories: A New Open Access Journal

The modernization of society goes hand in hand with agricultural, industrial, and economic development, with this development becoming increasingly complex due to the large number of activities being carried out and the diversification of products generated by society. This complexity, both for its own development and for the quality control of the operations—as well as of the final products obtained—requires, in one way or another, the use of corresponding laboratories. Work completed to a high standard at the internal laboratory level is essential for scientific progress and the development of actions, whether at the level of methodology, management, or quality control based on legislative standards, helping us achieve the advances desired by society. In fact, nowadays, all innovative ideas are taken to the laboratory for testing and development. Laboratories—whatever their nature—play a key role in achieving these advancements. Scientific discoveries and innovation emerge in laboratories—in its rooms of inquiry and exploration are where the boundaries of our understanding are pushed, and the future is forged.

Yet, given the high demands on quality of products being generated, laboratories must respond effectively to these demands in such a way that they are the tool for the control of the processes as well as for the control of the final products. This means it is essential that laboratories are developed with protocols at the level of management, methodology and quality control. All of these requirements make it necessary to create our new Laboratories journal. This journal was created to respond to new challenges, to present solutions to real problems, to create solutions that improve people’s daily lives, and to improve the future of society. Furthermore, these findings can improve the professional lives of the very workers who spend many hours of their careers in laboratories.

Laboratories (https://www.mdpi.com/journal/laboratories) (ISSN: 2813-8856) is an international, peer-reviewed, open access journal on laboratory management. It publishes reviews, research papers, and short communications. The journal has a multidisciplinary character, and our aim is to publish papers exploring all aspects related to laboratory construction and maintenance, management and planning, equipment and supplies, automatization, and hazards, among others.

• Scope

The journal welcomes manuscripts focusing on a wide range of topics related to laboratories. These include, but are not limited to:

• The laboratory’s role in driving scientific and technological innovation through research and development.
• Innovation in the interaction between the laboratory and the quality industry.
• Critical analysis of existing legislation, proposals for improvement, and new aspects to be included.
• Good practices in biological laboratories, risks, and health.
• Occupational health and hygiene monitoring.
• Research results generated with novel methods or new equipment.
• New laboratories and their construction, planning, equipment, computational tools, automatization, management, maintenance, and supplies.
• Hazardous waste management and process safety standards in the laboratory setting.
