Higher-Institution-Based Film Festivals as a Vehicle to Improve Student Production Quality and Form University–Industry Connections
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
The concept of the industry-academic learning process is examined in this paper. The authors names are not provided which prevents any issues of self-plagiarizing being detected. With the industry-academia integration being recognized as one of the better methods to develop the deep learning and practical skill necessary for understanding, this paper examines the concept within the performing arts field of films. The abstract is precise in the summation of the paper, while the introduction is a detailed account of the background of the influence of short-film production and the film festivals where these films are screened and judged. The authors contend that these short-film festivals provide the interaction between academia and film production or theory and practice. They have focused on the PRISM Short Film Festival with their examination of the previous five festival entries. The description of the five principals of film adaption from the classroom to the field are provided against which the learning occurs: Foundational Knowledge, Application, Integration, Human Dimension, Caring, and Learning How to Learn which is considered to be Significant Learning Experiences for the students.
The literature review is inclusive of the modern literature on the development and practice of short-film production and the benefits of industry focused learning in higher education which traditionally has a theoretical focus. Praxis is considered by some learners to be the better method of developing an in-depth knowledge and appreciation of the field that either theory or practice separately. The materials and methods provide an adequate description of the data collection and context and application. The research results including the collected and literature data have been used to develop a plausible and integrated story with graphs to reinforce the authors interpretation of the data while the conclusions summarize the advantages and disadvantages of this style of learning. The paper is completely semantic based which includes narrative comments from practitioners and students. The references appear to be complete and applicable to the research undertaken. His is a good ethnographic research project presentation.

Reviewer 2 Report
This work is of great interest in the field of knowledge transfer and, more specifically, artistic creation. The benefits are multidirectional: at the same time as learning is a meaningful experience, companies are enriched and the surrounding social reality is transformed, without forgetting that these are complex relationships that must be taken care of in order to be truly beneficial for all parties involved. Further studies of this kind are recommended.
