Exploring New Territories: New Records and Occurrence Confirmation of Two Caridean Shrimps in Brazil†
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
Comments and Suggestions for AuthorsThis is a straight forward note on the range extension of two caridean species along the southern Brazilian coast. Fully developed gametes indicate that these species form reproductive populations in the study area. I made few corrections in the file attached.

The English is fair, but could be improved. I suggest to have it checked by an English native speaker.

Comment 1: "This is a straight forward note on the range extension of two caridean species along the southern Brazilian coast. Fully developed gametes indicate that these species form reproductive populations in the study area. I made few corrections in the file attached."
Response: The reviewer suggested minor textual adjustments, which were accepted. Thank you so much!
Comment 2: "The English is fair, but could be improved. I suggest to have it checked by an English native speaker."
Response: As suggested, our manuscript was carefully reviewed by an English native speaker.

Reviewer 3 Report
Comments and Suggestions for AuthorsThis manuscript is a valuable contribution, presenting new records of two small caridean shrimp species in the shallow coastal waters of Brazil. The provided photographic documentation convincingly demonstrates that the authors have indeed correctly identified both species. Furthermore, the analyses of reproductive organs and eggs, including histological description, provide strong evidence that the populations of these species are actively reproducing at the study site.
I recommend this paper for publication after minor revision, considering my comments and suggested improvements outlined below.
ABREVIATIONS USAGE
Line 37: Do not use an abbreviation before defining it. Use the full name here, which I presume is “carapace length”.
Line 90: Introduce the abbreviation CL for carapace length here, as it is used in subsequent sections.
TYPOGRAPHICAL ERRORS
Line 59: Change “recoded” to ”record”.
Line 101: Correct “weighed” to ”weighted”.
FIGURE NUMBERING
Line 117: “Figure 1” should be “Figure 2”.
Lines 124-127: Change all instances of “Figure 1” to “Figure 2”.
Line 153: “Figure 2” should be “Figure 3”.
Lines: 166-174: Change all instances of “Figure 2” to “Figure 3”.
OTHER NOTES
Lines 120 and 157: I am curious whether other decapod species were found co-occurring with the two shrimp species newly recorded in Brazil.
TABLES 1 and 2
(1) Adding a row with mean and standard deviation values would facilitate the comparison of variable variations between the two species.
(2) If abbreviations Sh and Sw are defined in the Table 1 caption, you may use them instead of the full terms in the 11th and 12th columns.
(3) Use a period (.) as the decimal separator in Tables 1 and 2.
(4) Ensure consistency in decimal places across measurements of the same variable (e.g., 5 mm CL differs from 5.00 mm, with the latter indicating a higher measurements precision).
ENGLISH REFINEMENT
Line 235-236: Improve readability. I suggest changing:
“…we confirm the occurrence of (…) to Brazil found in rocky shore habitats…”
to:
“…we confirm the occurrence of (…) in Brazil, specifically in rocky shore habitats…”
Line 237-238: I suggest changing:
“Now, the coast of São Paulo State harbors 25 species of caridean shrimps, being 11 inhabiting marine shallow-coastal environments…”
into:
“Currently, the coast of São Paulo State harbors 25 species of caridean shrimps, 11 of which inhabit shallow marine coastal environments…”

Response: The reviewer recommended several small adjustments, all of which we have accepted. In addition, he asked if we found other species associated with the new ones recorded. We verify the association of Hippolyte obliquimanus with Latreutes parvulus, and the association of Palaemon northropi with Ambidexter cochensis. We will soon show such associations in another work.
