Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The document entitled "Likert-type Scale" is an analysis of the Likert-type scales. It includes historical context, design, and applications. I believe this entry is filling the gap in the literature and it’s useful for both novice and experienced researchers. The document has a strong methodological focus like diverging stacked bar charts and sensitivity analysis for missing data, reflects robust data handling practices. The Authors give example's and addressed how Likert data should be treated. Even though the study is clear I have two recommendations of the Authors. At first, I suggest adding diagrams, flowcharts, to make statistical concepts more digestible for a wider audience. Second, if it is possible to add a case study with real-world research examples.

Comments on the Quality of English Language

The English could be improved to more clearly express the research.

Response to Reviewer 1’s comment #1:

We sincerely thank the reviewer for the constructive feedback on our manuscript. In response to your valuable suggestion to make the statistical concepts more digestible for a wider audience, we have added a new table (Table 2) to the revised manuscript that summarizes the data analysis techniques for Likert scale data. The table distinguishes between individual Likert items and composite scales of appropriate descriptive statistics and comparative tests for each.

We are grateful for the suggestion to include a case study with real-world research examples. However, as this manuscript is intended as an encyclopedia entry, its primary goal is to provide a concise overview of the Likert scale, including its design, applications, and statistical considerations, rather than focus on specific case studies. To maintain broad applicability, we have focused on general principles, ensuring the content remains accessible and useful to a diverse audience across disciplines.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

This article provides a detailed introduction and explanation of the Likert scale, making it ideal for students new to reading and learning. If the goal of this journal is to introduce some basic concepts, then I think this article fits that goal very well.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The authors have presented a comprehensive overview of the Lickert-type scale. Their definitions were well articulated, and they presented a balanced discussion on the interval versus ordinal debate. They offer insightful recommendations on the appropriate use of parametric and nonparametric analysis techniques. Notably, the paper includes a valuable discussion on cultural influences and potential variations in participant response distributions. Overall, this well-written and informative paper is highly suitable for publication as an encyclopedia entry.

I identified a minor grammatical error on line 78, where "items" should be singular to match "each."

We sincerely thank the reviewer for their thoughtful and positive feedback on our manuscript.

Regarding the grammatical error on line 78, we have corrected "items" to the singular form, "item," to ensure grammatical accuracy and alignment with the sentence structure.
