Obesity, Weight Loss, Lifestyle Interventions, and Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
Overweight and obesity remain a growing health problem all over the world. Furthermore several studies could show that higher BMI correlates with an increased risk for progression of renal disease.
The review gives a very good overview about the influence of obesity, weight loss, and lifestyle interventions in renal disease focussing on patients suffering vom ADPKD.
High BMI indirectly causes damage on the kidneys in differents ways which are decribed in the manuscript. Furthermore the authors also focused on the potential role of adipose tissue with information about the role of location and type of adipose tissue.
Fig 3 is an excellent comprehensive presentation showing the signaling pathways impacted by obesity and Table 1 gives information about the dietary interventions.
Summarizing this review based on > 100 references is an interesting manuscript on a very important field in Nephrology.
