Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The manuscript entitled: “Clozaril and Constipation: Clinical Considerations and Treatment Options “by Edinoff et al. (Manuscript ID: psychiatryint-1288576) is a literature overview on the clinical effects of clozapine in the treatment of patients with schizophrenia, focused on the resistance to antipsychotic treatment and on the constipation as one of the side effects of treatment with clozapine.

The following points should be addressed:

  1. Since throughout the paper the authors mention only clozapine, why then clozaril in the title?

Author Response

  1. Since throughout the paper the authors mention only clozapine, why then clozaril in the title?

Answer: That is an excellent point as we strive to use generic names. This will be changed in the title

Reviewer 2 Report

This paper reviews the very important adverse effect of constipation from the use of clozapine. The authors comprehensively address the clinical significance of constipation with clozapine, addressing the potential seriousness of this adverse effect. I found the text placed this complication of treatment in context, with careful review of the nature of clozapine as a medication, its role in treating schizophrenia and the mechanism of constipation as an adverse effect. They also address the management of constipation in this context very thoroughly and with consideration of potential complications from these interventions. It would appear that the text has been revised extensively from a previous draft.

My only suggestion is that the authors might consider adding to the title: "A Review", as this can be helpful to readers when they are scanning lists of publications. However this is a minor point and it may be sufficient to make "review" a keyword.

Answer to the reviewer: That is another excellent point as this would allow readers to be able to quickly identify the article type. This has been added to the title.
