Stator-Rotor Contact Force Estimation of Rotating Machine
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
This manuscript studied the dry contact issue of a stator-rotor system by establishing nonlinear model. Although the discussion part is not perfect, the methodology and introduction were well explained. Some comments should be addressed as follows:
1 Would any friction reduction methods be used in stator-rotor systems, such as grease lubrication, EHL, etc? If so, the dry friction condition is unable to meet the current industrial requirements.
2 Why the plasticity not be considered in the shaft modelling?
3 The results section should be more detailed. For instance, “There are only small deviations between the estimated and true contact forces”, then what is the error value? Does the error small enough to present that the estimation method is applicable?

This work focuses on the numerical estimation of contact forces in the context of stator-rotor contacts in turbomachines. Even if the paper is very short, it is clear and well written. The equations formulation could be general with any number of elements instead of being restricted to a configuration with 9 beam elements.
There are several typos is the manuscript. Among them: “discplacements” lines 7, 83, and in the legend of figures 3 and 5; line 30: “simpel”; line 69: “ifnluences”; lines 72 and 106: “augemented”; paragraph between equations (1) and (2): “resuling”; line 118: “beteween”; line 125: “visulazied” line 126: “displacedment”; line 131: “to estimate” instead of “to estimated”; after equation (A46): “quantaties”.
