Comments and Suggestions for Authors

Overall: You write a lot and the relevant part of this research is very much lost.

Please try to make the meaning and purpose of this study (the advantages and disadvantages of colored roads for the environment, for durability, for the safety...) clearer.

Line numbers:

152 and 169: increasing albedo by 0.1 may decrease pavment surface temperatur and in 169 increasing solar reflectance by 0.25 may decrease pavement surface tempeature. Please add a sentence somewhere that describes the difference between albedo and solar reflectance.

172: Without reading the reference [54] – I guess this effect is not linear (-25°C = +25 years lifespan) or it has a limit. Maybe add 2-3 words to the sentence on that

326: You reference the studies also by name of the researchers, e.g. Horvath et al. conducted…, but in chapter 1.2 you referenced studies without listing the names of researchers, e.g. A study found…

Please decide on one type of reference when directly addressing a study

332: after introducing the abbreviation GHG for greenhouse gases, please use just the abbreviation in the following text.

354: abbreviation for equivalent carbon dioxide is CO2-eq. Please do not mix CO2 with CO2-eq. The latter include beside CO2 also CH4, N2O etc. Also subscript 2 in CO2

375: one bracket too much [171][

372: abbreviate carbon dioxide

416: [181] stated that… please do not cite like this. Use a study showed or Name et al. states that..

423: carbon dioxide CO2 – once you introduced the abbreviation, please use it (and subscript 2 in CO2)

560: I have now read 20 pages of a very long intro and little info on colored pavements. From now on I have pretty much the same comments. You have to provide more info when introducing a statement.

599: Clear binder will perform worse than convential binder. Please provide more details.

616: According to the type of binder used, the temperature for asphalt mixing and processing should be adjusted proportionately. Please provide more details.

619: Financial comparison with an LCA? Do you mean LCCA? This does not make sense to me.

643: The evaluation of the latter performance involved conducting tests to assess water sensitivity, rutting resistance, and low-temperature cracking. It would be interesting if you could gather more information about this and explain the differences.

703: This study introduces a novel thermochromic asphalt binder with many functions. You developed a new binder? Or the study in [235]? This is very misleading.

Conclusion: Please restructure your work so that the aim of this study becomes clearer.

Comments on the Quality of English Language

The text is well written. However, proof-reading to eliminate small mistakes is hihgly recommended.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

1. The introduction section does not present the experimental methods of this study, nor does it mention the definition of colored pavement.

2. In section 1.2 of the text, the road surface is divided into three categories based on its constituent materials, and concrete pavement and asphalt pavement are introduced, but the reason for not introducing composite pavement is not explained?

3. In section 4.3 of the text, the title describes the materials used in the construction of colored sidewalks, but the content introduces the construction methods and uses of colored pavements.

4. Figure 4 in the article lists data on urban population, carbon dioxide emissions, paved roads, unpaved roads, and energy consumption in the road sector for different countries. But only a comparison was made between data from two countries across multiple datasets. What is the significance of the other data in the chart?

5. The experimental data obtained in Table 7 cannot support the conclusion. There are too many variables in the experimental data and no comparison has been made. How can the conclusion be drawn in this situation?

6. In the comparative experiment of 5.1, the influence of five color coatings on the thermal performance of concrete and asphalt pavement surfaces was studied and examined. The article only shows the experimental data of the white coating and does not include the experimental data of the other four colors.

7. The conclusion in section 5.5 lacks consideration for the factor of albedo changing over time. What impact does this factor have on the results?

8. The conclusions drawn in the article are mostly based on literature data, with limited experimental data and a lack of credibility.
