Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This is a straightforward paper describing several seemingly new species. The following are a few general observations that should be addressed.

line 15. hypomycetes is not a class. It is a term we still use to describe a morphology.

line 35. Are there species of the genus Helicosporium that do not form helicospores?

line 43. A diameter is given for the spore. One presumes this to refer to the coiled spore but it is not clear. This is also the case in the desriptions. What does the following mean line 196 and elsewhere, "rounded at tip, 12-13 diam., and conidial filament 1.5 -3 µm wide...105-130 µm long"? This must be clarified. See also lines 154, 232. In notes see also line 211 and following; 249 and following

line 303. the key. I am not sure of the soundness of using the ascomatal characters without giving information of the conidia of those species. I think the key should be reconsturcted to use the conidial characters and then indicate if an ascomata is formed. One would never be able to identify the ascomatal types if one had only conidia.

Plates. The habitat photos seem blurry. If this cannot be corrected perhaps arrows would direct the reader.

The above should be addressed in the methods -- how are conidia measured?

line 77. A manufacturer should be given for the extraction kit.

line 145 and elsewhere. The sexual morph is said to be undetermined. It would be more accurate to say "unknown" or "not seen." There was nothing to determine apparently.

Generally good. A few usage problem -- among instead of between when there are more than two in the comparison.

Dear authors

I have received your manuscript on "Additions to the genus Helicosporium (Tubeufiaceae, Tubeufiales) from China with an identification key to Helicosporium taxa", and I made corrections and some suggestions. Based on the data, I think that your manuscript could be considered for publication if you incorporate minor revisions.
